Process Safety Lead II

Position Purpose:
To support the refinery’s efforts in ensuring that the various elements of OSHA’s Process Safety standard (1910.119) are being followed and/or adhered to as outlined in administrative procedures and policies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
This position is responsible to support the Process Safety Coordinator in the management of the process safety program at the refinery. Support duties include, but are not limited to the following:
· Oversee elements of Process Safety Management and Risk Management programs.
· Conduct process unit PHA studies and follow-up on action items found during reviews.
· Conduct/coordinate pre-start-up safety reviews, as required.
· Oversee United’s Near Miss and Incident program and follow up on corrective actions.
· Prequalify contractors prior to work in the plant.
· Track/audit process safety related activities in the plant and make recommendations for improvement.
· Initiate PSM related incident investigations and follow up on recommendations.
· Promote and encourage employee participation through Near Miss reporting, PHA discussion, and all other safety related feedback.
· Track appropriate Process Safety Management KPI metrics.
· Work with Fire & Safety and Medical staff to appropriately address industrial hygiene activities.
· Respond to plant emergencies.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Through knowledge of the process safety standards and how to apply it within the refinery management system.
· Knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts.
Competencies/Skills: Proficient use of Microsoft Suite software and PHA Pro-8, or equivalent, software, and a sound understanding of PSM elements. Skills in Risk Management and Industrial Hygiene are highly desirable. Good communications skills and ability to work effectively with Management, Operations/Maintenance Supervision, Plant and Office Personnel.
Work Environment: While daily activities are based in an office environment, there will be regular interaction and participation in activities that require a presence in a shop or field environment.
Physical Demands: Moderate, however, field activities can include navigating among field equipment and piping, and ladder/stair access to structural platforms. Exposure to construction areas should be expected and common. Field activities will require Personnel Protection Equipment (PPE).

Required Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· One to three years of PSM experience in an industrial setting
Preferred Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· College degree, preference in technical, safety management, or industrial hygiene specialization
· One to three years’ experience in a Process Safety Management role.
