Project Engineer - Industrial Mechanical Systems (Field-Based)Houston, TX | Industrial Sites | Travel RequiredEngineering That Actually Gets DeployedAt IGS, we design and deploy highly engineered mechanical systems used inside refineries, power plants, and heavy industrial facilities worldwide.We are looking for a hands-on Project Engineer who can bridge engineering theory with real-world execution.This is not a desk-only design role.If you've worked with rotating equipment, high-pressure systems, turbomachinery, or complex mechanical assemblies - and you enjoy solving problems in the field - this role was built for you.General Purpose of the Position:The Project Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that engineering innovations and project solutions are field-ready, validated, documented, and deployable at scale. This role supports both project execution and applications development activities, providing expert implementation support, structured feedback, training, and collaborative problem-solving for the on-site project execution team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Support project execution activities by providing technical guidance, implementation support, and problem-solving assistance to field and operations teams during all phases of project delivery.Own defined technical and execution aspects of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, quality requirements, safety standards, and operational objectives.Ensure engineering solutions and innovations are operationally ready through field validation, documentation development, and structured risk mitigation prior to and during deployment.Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation such as method statements, application guidelines, quality control packages, and field-ready reference materials to support consistent execution.Capture structured field feedback, lessons learned, and performance data, and communicate insights to Systems Engineering and Operations teams to support continuous improvement.Mentor and guide technicians and junior engineers in application best practices, safe execution, and standardized operating approaches.Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Operations, Safety, Quality, and Commercial teams to resolve implementation challenges and improve execution efficiency.Participate in technical-commercial evaluations and risk framing activities, with scope and responsibility scaling based on experience and seniority.Support standardized project structures, processes, and execution frameworks to improve consistency, safety, and project outcomes across the organization.Skills and Abilities Required:Strong technical aptitude with the ability to apply engineering principles in dynamic field and site environments.Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk, troubleshoot issues, and develop practical solutions.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting demands.Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.Comfort working directly with internal stakeholders and external clients, vendors, and partners.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Contacts:Frequent collaboration with Operations, Systems Engineering, Safety, Quality, Commercial, and Project Management teams.Regular interaction with field personnel including technicians and supervisors.Periodic communication with clients, vendors, and external partners in support of project execution and application development.Decision/Judgment:Exercises independent technical and field-level judgment within defined project and application scopes.Applies sound judgment to identify risks, resolve technical issues, and support execution decisions.Escalates commercial, safety, contractual, or high-risk matters appropriately in accordance with company procedures.Decision-making authority and scope scale with experience and demonstrated capability.Effort/Working Conditions:Work is performed in a challenging environment in various client facilities which includes but are not limited to refineries, paper mills and power plants in both the USA and International locations.Work routinely involves confined space entry, working at heights, and use of personal protective equipment.The role includes a balance of field-based and office-based work depending on project phase and assignment.Flexible scheduling and extended work hours may be required during peak project periods.Education and Experience Required:Bachelor's degree in Engineering in a relevant field required. Mechanical Engineering preferred.Minimum 3-5 years of experience in engineering, project execution, applications support, or industrial operations environments preferred.Experience working in field services, industrial projects, or heavy industry environments is strongly preferred.
