Position Type: Support Staff/Support Service Teacher Date Posted: 5/29/2026 Location: Osceola Middle School Special Education Teacher Job Goal: Provide struggling learners with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Report to: School Principal and/or School Designee Responsibilities: Planning, developing, delivering and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, learning programs and instruction for special needs students in self-contained and/or integrated settings in consultation with other school personnel. Essential Job Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Identify the needs of assigned students through formal and informal assessmentsReview referral data, history and assessment data to develop appropriate goals and objectives for each studentConfer with general education teachers regarding the educational, social, emotional and physical needs and objectives of each studentPlan, develop and implement individualized learning plans for each studentDesign appropriate teaching strategiesPrepare instructional materials and lesson plans according to Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)Review IEPs with parents, school administrators and general education teachersUtilize appropriate methods of learning delivery and instruction to meet the needs of each student in the Least Restrict Environment (LRE)Monitor, evaluate and document each student's progress utilizing appropriate measurements and assessment devicesPrepare timely progress reports for each studentDevelop and implement necessary interventions and strategies to promote achievement of student objectives.Modify and adapt conventional educational programs and curriculum to meet the requirements of special needs studentsMaintain regular communication with parents by means of email, phone calls, face to face conferences and progress reportsAssist parents with understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standardsManage student behavior through monitoring, supervising and assessing behavioral patternsUtilize appropriate corrective methods to modify behaviorAssist with developing and implementing Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIPs) where necessaryPrepare special needs students for inclusion and transition to mainstreamMaintain accurate and complete records in compliance with state and school district regulations and legal requirements.Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and trends.Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information in the school and community.
