The environment supports creative problem-solving and professional growth for design and technical talent.Role Description The Freelance First Patternmaker will translate design concepts into accurate first patterns and proto samples, supporting our apparel development process. This full-time, on-site role in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area involves working closely with designers to interpret sketches, specifications, and fabric choices, ensuring that garments meet fit and construction standards. Day-to-day tasks include drafting and updating patterns, conducting fittings, making pattern corrections, and collaborating with sewing and production teams. The patternmaker will also maintain pattern files, prepare documentation for sampling, and help troubleshoot technical design challenges to achieve consistent, production-ready results.QualificationsCandidates should possess strong Pattern Making and Pattern Design skills, with experience creating first patterns from designer sketches and technical packs.Candidates should possess Fitting expertise, including the ability to evaluate garment fit on forms or models and translate fitting feedback into precise pattern adjustments.Candidates should possess sewing skills sufficient to construct prototypes and understand garment construction methods and finishing techniques.Candidates should possess Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills for digital pattern drafting, grading, and pattern management in industry-standard software.Relevant additional qualifications include experience in apparel product development, knowledge of fabric behavior and garment construction, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with designers and production staff, manage multiple styles simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced studio environment.Prior experience as a patternmaker or technical designer in fashion, preferably within contemporary or juniors categories; formal training in fashion design or patternmaking is beneficial.
