Job Description:The Department of Sociology is searching for an engaging, innovative educator who is passionate about teaching undergraduate students and maintains a student-centered learning environment. This 9-month benefit eligible, non-tenure eligible Lecturer position in Sociology is renewable on a year-to-year basis contingent upon performance, departmental needs, and college funding. Review of applications will commence immediately!Teach a 4-4 load consisting of lower and upper-level classes as needed including Social Organization and Work. One course release per semester (Fall & Spring) to be granted to facilitate coordination of internships in the Criminal Justice and Sociology majors during the academic year and summer.Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Social Organizations and/or with work experience in Criminal Justice.Cultivate and coordinate internship opportunities in Criminal Justice and Sociology; and advise majors within the Sociology departmentAs part of the Sociology faculty, collaborate in programming, departmental work, and advising to cultivate student interest in further study of Sociology and Criminal JusticeResponsibilitiesCoordinate, plan and create syllabi for courses assigned at the lower/intermediate level with an occasional upper-level course. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Social Organizations and with work experience in Criminal Justice. This position carries a 4/4 load; with one course release per semester to cultivate community relationships and coordinate internships in the Criminal Justice and Sociology majors during the academic year.Develop, deliver, and grade relevant assignments, discussions, tests and other activities that measure student progress towards course goalsEvaluate student progress towards specified course objectives and provide timely feedback to students accordinglyFacilitate classroom instruction using an appropriate pedagogical framework relevant to course contentMaintain accurate, objective and complete grading rosters for all students within assigned coursesComply with all related federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines including but not limited to FERPA and Title IXSubmit all grades to the Registrar by the published deadlineDevelop and supervise relevant internship opportunities for students in the department. Maintain all records associated with the internship experiences, and comply with all McDaniel College internship guidelinesObserve all requirements of the McDaniel College Honor Code (see Student Handbook)Provide the opportunity during office hours or by special appointment for students to consult or to review the results of tests, papers, and other requirementsTreat grades and other student records with confidentiality and in accord with state and federal law.Engage in service activities, such as departmental and institution committee work and student advising, as required by the Faculty Handbook in effect, including attending scheduled department and college events and ceremoniesRequirements:M.A in Sociology or related fields, PhD, ABD or JD preferred.
