General Summary: A DC Material Handler is responsible for manually moving and handling freight/merchandise within the Distribution Center. Routine duties performed by the DC Material Handler are done so without the assistance of technology. Routine duties performed by the DC Material Handler are done so with the occasional assistance of the warehouse management system (WMS).Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesUse proper lifting and operating procedures to manually lift, stack, and/or transport cartons using pallets, carts, and/or conveyorsAssemble carton contents or build pallets, as shown on monitor if available, by identifying and matching like carton UPCs so outer labels are facing outwardsSeparate and organize freight by vendor name, purchase order, SKU and/or store numberResponsible for palletizing products and preparing shipments.Loads and unloads trucks safely and efficiently. Safely utilize manually operated equipment (i.e. pallet jack, rolling conveyor, pick cart, totes, or hand truck) to transport cartons or other items by means of pushing, pulling, lifting, or carryingResponsible for the proper handling and use of all Company owned property, tools, and equipmentMaintains a clean, orderly, and safe work environmentConducts duties in compliance with OSHA safety standards and location specific policies, paying special attention to pedestrian/equipment traffic.Communicates problems/concerns to the appropriate DC Lead, Supervisor, and/or Area Manager.Other duties as assigned by leadership, including those requiring the use of manual DC equipment, housekeeping tools, and/or manually moving product which the associate is trained and skilled to perform.Cross-train to perform one or more functions within multiple departments to assist within other areas based on the needs of the department, facility, and CompanyUtilize manually operated equipment, i.e., pallet jack or hand truck to load cartons or other itemsAbility to maintain a flexible schedule to support workload requirementsWill be moved to other departments, as needed based on needs of the department, facility and company along with other duties as assignedRequired SkillsContinuous bending, lifting, walking, pushing, pulling of freight, standing for long periods of timeAbility to read and recognize applicable numbers and directives, including safety rules, operating instructions, racking locations, and procedural documentsAble to follow policies and procedures that are written and verbally provided.Understand basic math skills to ensure inventory and order processing accuracy (Count, add, subtract, identify, etc. numbers 0-1,000)Lift and stack cartons onto pallets and conveyors using proper lifting and operating proceduresSafely utilize manually operated equipment (i.e. pallet jack, rolling conveyor, pick cart, totes, or hand truck) to transport cartons or other items by means of pushing, pulling, lifting, or carryingExperience in Distribution Center helpful but not requiredLift cartons weighing up to 50 poundsExperienceOne or more years of warehouse, distribution, logistics, or fulfillment experience helpful but not requiredPreferred QualificationsKnowledgeable and skilled with using a RF scannerUse of non-motorized equipment used within the distribution centerPrior knowledge of warehouse management system (WMS) functionsPrior experience working within an automated conveyor-based operationEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent
