Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 9 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel JOB DESCRIPTION RN - Pediatric Oncology/Hematology About Facility: 247 Licensed Beds Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center Teaching Hospital Chest Pain Center Certified Stroke Center Congenital Cardiology ranked 7 by USNWR Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit Department Information: Beds: 24 (16 beds for Hematology/Oncology, 8 beds for Bone Marrow Transplant) Avg daily census: 22 All RNs work interchangeably throughout 24 beds Required Experience: 2 years of Peds with strong Oncology/Hematology experience (BMT experience highly preferred) Will accept first-time traveler if strong BMT RN Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Ages: Neonate to adults (if patient had childhood cancer treatment here, they will come to unit, even as an adult) On-Service: Solid tumor cancers, Leukemia, Sickle cell, Aplastic anemia Highly acute bone marrow transplant population Off Service: Non-Hem/Onc without communicable infections Behavioral Health: Pediatric behavioral/adjustment disorders, Suicidal Ideation, elopement, human trafficking Patient Ratios: Hem/Onc – 1:3 Observation/Off Service – 1:3-4 Bone Marrow Transplant – 1:1-2, based on acuity CNA: 1:12 Required License/Certifications: BLS, PALS APHON provider card (certificate) Skills Required: Port access experience, chemo administration, blood product transfusion, cardiac rhythm interpretation Comfort with blood cultures/central line care, PCA pumps, Heparin gtts Preferred Skills: Bone marrow transplant experience (Day 0-2) End of Life care – Precedex gtt, Intranasal Versed, Ketamine drips, chest tubes Support within Department: Charge RN/Supervisor – free floating Unit Educator (Days) Task RN – 10am-10:30pm Unit Secretary – until 9:30pm HCTs – 1:12 ratio Psych Tech as available PICU consult team APP (day), Provider on call overnight IV/VAT team, Phlebotomy, RT 24/7, Telemetry monitoring, Security 24/7 Technology/Equipment: EMR: EPIC IV Pumps: Alaris Med Dispensing: Omnicell Orientation: NEO 2 days departmental Other Notes: Scrub Color: Navy Blue Parking: Free Department Culture: Must be a team player and take initiative JOB SUMMARY The RN Clinical Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with facility or department policies, procedures, and/or protocols under the supervision of the nursing leader. The RN Clinical Nurse assists in maintaining a safe work environment and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner. The RN Clinical Nurse maintains clinical and professional competency as appropriate to the population of patients served. A registered nurse's practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collects pertinent data and information relative to the healthcare consumer's health or the situation. Analyzes the assessment data to determine the actual or potential diagnoses, problem, and issues. Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation. Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes. Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Delegates elements of care to appropriate healthcare workers in accordance with any applicable legal or policy parameters or principles. Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Practices ethically. Practices in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles. Communicates effectively in all areas of practice. Collaborates with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in the conduct of nursing practice. Leads within the professional practice setting and the profession. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider status according to American Heart Association. Current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state in which you work and reside or; if declaring a National License Compact (NLC) state as your primary state of residency, meet the licensure requirements in your home state; or for Non-National License Compact states, current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner required in the state where the RN works. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required within the department by the nurse leader. Complies with the requirements for advancement, maintenance, approved certification, and nursing education as outlined in Professional Nurse Clinical Advancement Program.
