Description:First Response Rail Service is seeking a skilled and motivated Railcar Mechanic to join our growing team. The Railcar Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining freight railcars to ensure they meet safety and operational standards. This role requires mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a rail yard or shop environment.Key Responsibilities:Inspect freight railcars for mechanical defects, damage, or safety issuesPerform repairs and maintenance on railcar components including brakes, couplers, draft systems, and structural componentsReplace worn or damaged parts such as brake shoes, air hoses, valves, and bearingsConduct air brake tests and other safety checks according to industry standardsWeld and fabricate components when requiredMaintain accurate inspection and repair recordsFollow FRA, AAR, and company safety regulationsWork safely around heavy equipment and moving railcarsCommunicate repair needs and updates with supervisors and team membersRequirements:Qualifications:Previous railcar repair or mechanical experience preferredKnowledge of FRA and AAR railcar repair standards is a plusWelding experience (stick, MIG, or flux core) preferredAbility to read and interpret repair manuals and mechanical diagramsStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skillsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to lift up to 5075 lbs and perform physical laborValid drivers license requiredPreferred Experience:Freight railcar repairBrake system repair and testingStructural repair and weldingHeavy equipment or mechanical maintenanceBenefits:Competitive pay based on experienceOvertime opportunitiesHealth, dental, and vision insurancePaid time offWork Environment:This position works primarily in rail yards and maintenance facilities , requiring exposure to outdoor conditions, heavy equipment, and rail operations.PI5f7bb1ad94d0-26289-39957083
