City Editor Position The City Editor position is directly responsible for assignments and content planning in conjunction with the angles and leads of the reporters. Edits reporters' stories for libel, accuracy, fairness and understanding of subject matters being reported. Cultivates positivity, creativity and inspiration among reporters. Produces and edits appropriate pages and special sections as assigned by the Editor. Responsibilities: Coordinates day-to-day activities of the city desk. Assigns, reviews, edits, rewrites news reporter, videographer and other submitted stories. Enforces newsroom rules and procedures as it relates to the news policy manual. Assists in the hiring, firing, disciplining, commendations, coordination of training and evaluations of news/video reporters with input of the Editor and HR. Participates in the supervision of News Editor, and in his/her absence supervises pagination. Responsible for layout, design and planning of all PNN news publications and special sections, and works with editors with designs of various PNN products. Writes headlines for stories. Researches and writes accurate stories and takes photographs for all PNN news publications and special sections to prescribed quality standards. Covers news events as necessary. Attends editorial budget meetings, stand-up meetings, editorial staff meetings and PNN staff meetings. Types, proofreads and edits copy using a computer. Writes editorials and columns for The Daily Courier. Participates in community events, representing the company. Produces material as needed for the company's web/internet and social media sites. Generates ideas to improve web and print content. Stays abreast of new online trends. Education, experience and skills required: Journalism degree, immensely preferred, or experience equal to or greater than. Considerable experience reporting, writing and editing is strongly desired. Knowledge of Associated Press style is a prerequisite. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. A proven ability to lead and inspire others. Work effectively with a vast range of colleagues. Exceptional grammar, spelling, proofreading and editing skills is imperative. Strong organizational skills is necessary.
