Department of Student LifeDirector of Community LifeCairn University's Department of Student Life is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Director of Community Life.Department PurposeThe core values of Student Life are designed to provide student care through orientation, spiritual mentorship, life in community, intellectual engagement, leadership development, robust programs and an experience that is fun. These core values shape how Student Life serves the students and how the institution recognizes that segments of the student population, such as international students, conditionally accepted students, and students of color, need additional support.A primary function for each position in Student Life is to assist in fulfilling the overall Student Life purpose of care within the context of the University mission. Many times, the needs of student support and success require collaboration and cooperation with members of other service departments. Thus, personnel in the department of student life require flexibility, cooperation, and teamwork as a unit and within the entire university.All personnel in Student Life have ministerial responsibilities to provide spiritual support to students and colleagues at the University. This takes the form of departmental prayer, coordination of spiritual enrichment activities such as bible study groups, participation in university prayer and university update events, and mentoring of student workers.Position SummaryThe Director of Community Life is responsible for the operation, administration and supervision of the educational, social and physical environments of Cairn University's residence halls, and the coordination of student programming on Cairn's campus. Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Students, the Director of Community Life provides leadership to the Student Programming (ENGAGE) and Residence Life departments. Areas of responsibility include staff leadership and development; community and programming development; and various administrative and operations duties pertaining to the safety and well-coordinated housing and services provided to resident students.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesStaff Leadership & DevelopmentManage three full-time employees who are responsible for campus programming, residence life, housing, student conduct, and student leadership development.Oversee the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of:Student Programming staff; including any associated GAs, part-time student workers.Student Residence Life staff: including approximately 20 Resident Assistants, approximately 2-4 Lead Resident Assistants.Facilitate weekly meetings with full-time staff as well as Community Life Student workers, focusing on the progress of the Residence Life and Student Programming expectations, goals, and opportunities for new initiatives, collaborative projects, or committees.Community & Programming Development:Focus on building community and developmental/educational programming by enhancing current efforts and coordinating new initiatives, including first-year initiatives, theme houses/halls, living-learning communities, concerts, etc.Initiate work with faculty and staff to enhance programming where possible.Serve as part of the team of professionals responding to student conduct issues and critical incidents.Assist in adjudicating various violations of campus conduct policies, including but not limited to those incidents in residential areas. Provide support and counsel in situations involving student behaviors of concern as appropriate.Oversee the management of the Cairn's judicial system assuring its full coordination with the institutional judicial system and its compliance with university policy, etc.Administration:Manage the Residence Life and Student Programs budget and develop the annual budget requests.Aid with projections for revenue through Residence Life for the annual budget process.Administer the overall furniture and equipment inventory for the department, and oversee the annual purchase process.Manage budgetary projections and estimates for all student programs.Oversee the management of the daily operations of the housing program.Develop and coordinate, as it relates to housing and in conjunction with other university offices, short and long range facility evaluation and planning, housing assignments and billing related data, and any other activities as are necessary for the management of residential on-campus housing program.Provide leadership, oversight, and support in the administration of housing for students, camps, and other outside users of the residential facilities.Supervise the housing selection, assignment, and transition process for students. Oversee roommate matching and adjustment challenges when they arise.Develop and ensure an effective key management and security system.Oversee off-campus housing requests and exemptions process.Assist students who cannot and wish not to obtain university housing to develop an alternative plan for their housing arrangements. Develop and promote web-based housing listing services.Communicate with residents and parents regarding residential life policies and questions, and identify appropriate solutions when issues and complaints emerge.Approve, coordinate, and establish, in consultation with Campus Services, priorities for resident hall maintenance work including in-house jobs and work performed by outside contractors.Oversee and develop effective policies and procedures to ensure a safe, healthy, and developmental learning community among the various residential areas of the UniversityServe as a liaison between Community Life, OSS, Technology Services, Admissions and Financial Aid, Pioneer, and other various other departments.Collaborate closely with Campus Services department to identify and respond to immediate maintenance needs, as well as develop plans for deferred maintenance and capital requests.MiscellaneousAssume "on-call" responsibility for all residence halls and apartments on a scheduled basis, as well as provide support for any campus related emergency.Consult with the Marketing and Communications department and develop brochures, webpage information, social media, and various other materials to inform students about relevant programs, policies, processes, and other factors of related to Community Life programs and activities.Serve as University representative, advocate and resource in speaking with prospective students and/or parents at various Admissions events, orientation sessions, and serve on various University committees.Serve on University committees and be involved in housing proposals and projects, etc. as necessary.Serve on the Critical Incident Response Team, Behavioral Intervention Team, Title IX Team, and other committees, as necessary.Assist with new student orientation events, overseeing move-in activities and introduction to Residence Life and programming in particular.Perform other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.OtherParticipate in departmental meetings.Participate in University meetings, as requested.Perform other departmental duties, as assigned.Skills and AbilitiesThe individual will possess strong spiritual leadership qualities and characterStrong organization, team-building, interpersonal, and management skills.Required Education and ExperienceMaster's degree in Student Affairs or other related field andMinimum of three years of experience in student life work in a collegiate setting.Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
