Senior Project Estimator

A leading construction firm in the Washington, DC metropolitan area is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its Estimating / Pre-Construction team. As a member of the team, you will have the opportunity to grow professionally while contributing to complex and high-profile projects in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.Position OverviewThe Senior Estimator gathers, calculates, and compiles data for use in conceptual and bid proposal estimates. This position prepares estimates under general supervision and maintains current, accurate pricing information from suppliers, subcontractors, and other industry sources.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport pre-construction and estimating efforts to secure successful bidsFormat bids to fulfill all RFP requirementsPerform scope review and quantity takeoffs from construction documentsLevel subcontractor bid proposalsReview bid documents and prepare pre-bid RFIsPrepare budgetary pricing from schematic drawingsExperience with base building and interior construction projectsAnalyze drawings and develop subcontractor bid listsIssue Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to subcontractors and suppliersDevelop and maintain subcontractor and supplier relationshipsMaintain relationships with architects, owners, engineers, designers, and clientsCollaborate with operations teams to develop quantities, logistics plans, and schedulesLead and facilitate pre-bid meetingsGather historical cost data for use in future estimatesBuild and manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendorsEnsure compliance with quality and safety standardsPrepare estimates at conceptual, schematic, and design-development stagesMaintain accurate documentation and project recordsReview bid forms prior to submissionReview schedules and constructability with operations staffAssist with performance reviews and mentoring of junior estimatorsPrepare instructions to bidders and bid solicitation documentsDevelop conceptual budgets with limited informationSupport project handoff and kickoff meetings after awardSupervise, train, and mentor junior estimators when requiredResearch materials, specifications, and pricingPerform other related duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent experienceMinimum 5+ years of estimating experience in commercial, interior, or base-building constructionAbility to read and interpret plans and specificationsExperience reviewing RFIs, RFPs, and bid packagesAbility to estimate multiple projects simultaneouslyKnowledge of building codes and permitting requirementsStrong attention to detailStrong math and analytical skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience with estimating software, Bluebeam, and Microsoft OfficeAbility to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environmentBenefits~ Comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision, disability, life)~401(k) with company match~ Paid holidays~ Flexible Spending Account (FSA)~ Paid time off~ Parental leave~ Professional development and training programs~ Employee referral program
