Senior Design Engineer

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer leads and supports product, manufacturing, and application engineering programs from concept through production launch. This role is suited for an experienced, hands-on mechanical engineer who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys owning complex designs, mentoring others, and driving high-quality, cost-effective solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development of robust, manufacturable design solutions based on customer technical requirementsCreate, review, and approve detailed designs, models, and drawings using CAD softwareAnalyze engineering sketches, specifications, and data to establish design factors, tolerances, and performance requirementsDesign parts and assemblies with strong consideration for manufacturability, cost, quality, and reliabilityLead and participate in design reviews; document and implement lessons learnedEvaluate, approve, and release design changes, specifications, and drawingsSupport prototype builds, testing, validation, and transition to productionMaintain and control engineering documentation, including drawings, models, and change recordsApply and support TLX engineering tools and processes, including Phase/Gate, ECOs, DFMEA/PFMEA, DFM, tolerance stack-ups, DVP&R, PPAP, and process validationProvide technical support to Sales for customer meetings, presentations, and technical reviewsCollaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and OperationsInterface directly with customers and suppliers on technical requirements, design changes, and prototype coordinationSupport root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiativesRequired Skills & CompetenciesStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsIn-depth knowledge of metals, plastics, coatings, finishes, and hardwareSolid understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, injection molding, welding, and millingAbility to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to internal teams, customers, and suppliersExperience working directly with suppliers on prototype builds and design changesStrong understanding of how design decisions impact Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)Ability to lead or support quality investigations and root cause analysisComfortable mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidanceEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or equivalent relevant experience5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in a manufacturing environmentProficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD softwareStrong Excel skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office toolsExperience with DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, and AIAG procedures preferredFamiliarity with magnetic modeling concepts or simulations used in electromechanical product design is a plusWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation based on experienceHands-on ownership of products across the full development lifecycleOpportunity to work closely with manufacturing and see designs move into productionCollaborative engineering and manufacturing environmentOpportunities for continued technical growth and leadership developmentInterested in learning more?
