Direct Support Professional (DSP)

We need someone who wants to be out and about in San Diego, has good communication skills and can assist our client in improving their quality of life to live here in our beautiful community as any other adult.
We are looking for someone that has prior experience working ias a Direct Support Professional or in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or home health settings. The role is PART-TIME (20 hours per week) and there is flexibility with schedule, however the following shifts are required:
Schedule: Evenings 4-9PM M-F Second position flexible but mostly mid day or evenings for 11.5 hours a week
This position pays a very competitive $23.00 per hour 11 hours a week. Can combine with another 20 hour a week position in Poway to be 31 hours a week.
More details! This position will assist a man navigate life on his own who needs some extra help with keeping his apartment cleaned, planning meals, grocery shopping, laundry, medication reminders, doctors’ appointments and social activities. Our participant lives in his own condo in Mission Valley but is selling and moving to Mira Mesa area.
Required: You must have your own personal vehicle to transport the participant, and it must be in good working condition. All applicants will be required to present proof of insurance for the vehicle and clear criminal background check as a condition of employment with TLC.
DSP Responsibilities:
Provide direct care and support to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Maintain a clean, safe environment through light cleaning duties and proper infection control practices
Drive individual to outings, or community activities (valid driver's license and proof of insurance required $100,000/$300,000)
Provide companionship and engage in social activities with clients
Foster a safe and supportive environment for individuals
Document and maintain accurate records of individual progress and incidents
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the well-being of individuals
Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals.
Respond promptly to emergencies using CPR or first aid skills when necessary
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Knowledge of systems for providing support to individuals with disabilities
Familiarity with social work principles and practices
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and confidentiality requirements
Experience:
Previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities or autism is required or a close relative with a disability.
Familiarity with providing patient care and assisting with ADLs
Experience with behavioral issues such as redirecting.
Note: Training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate potential and willingness to learn.
