We work with students in their homes, at local libraries, at the Academy school office, and remotely/online. Tutoring is 1-on-1, allowing you the chance to truly get to know your student and help them thrive at school or via an Academy middle/high school credit course. After-school hours that grow (especially if you tutor multiple subjects). Great for substitute teachers, grad school students, or those who already have morning/midday jobs. For the right candidate, there are additional hours and leadership opportunities with experience, seniority, and ability. Working Conditions: Schedule: Our current need is for late evenings (up to 8pm or 9pm) and weekend hours. Hours depend on student demand. This position is part-time, with an anticipated need of 6 to 15hours/week from Monday through Thursday and one or both weekend days. Locations: Issaquah/Sammamish student homes (with an adult in the house), local libraries, or the Academy school office in Sammamish. This position requires applicants to be available for in-person lessons. Some families also request virtual Zoom lessons (but all instructors must be able to attend in-person lessons). Necessary travel: We drive between lessons (paid time) and you will need a reliable car for in-person lessons. Job Duration: (Paid) training begins immediately upon hire and position commitment is until the end of the school year. We are open year-round and also have summer programs. Essential Abilities and Behaviors : Be proficient and able to explain your subject fluently from absolute beginner to advanced. You will need experience, even informally, explaining concepts, devising activities, and helping students document their progress. Communicate on a consistent basis via Pacific Learning Academy email and commit to reporting lesson details via our online system within 24 hours. Persuade reluctant learners to find joy in the subject again and be ready to explain concepts in fresh, flexible ways! Education: 4-year degree as a minimum in any subject. Skill: Able to work with middle and high school students and provide unique and differentiated support and instruction based on their learning needs. Misc: Reliable transportation for in-home tutoring on the Eastside (Issaquah and Sammamish) and reliable internet/equipment if you'd also like to work with students via Zoom.
