Salary:MN Care Services is looking for skilled behavior support staff who go beyond basic caregivingprofessionals who understandbehavioral principles, value consistency, and take ownership of their role in supporting individuals with complex needs.TheBehavior Technician provides respectful, compassionate, and individualized support to people with diverse behavioral, developmental, and/or mental health support needs in home-based settings. Support may be provided to children, adolescents, or adults.In this role, the Behavior Technician works alongside each person to promote safety, skill development, independence, and overall well-being, recognizing that behaviors are a form of communication. Services are delivered in alignment with each individuals support plan and personal goals.The Behavior Technician does not manage people, but may guide and facilitate activities and tasks, partnering with individuals in a way that honors their choices, preferences, and strengths.Responsibilities of a Behavior Technician at MN Care Services:Follow the person's care plan and ensure all applicable documentation related to them is completed timely and accurately, such as shift notes or medication administration reportsCollect accurate data to drive positive behaviors as part of the person's care planProvide problem-solving assistance and build confidence in person served by assisting with activities such as meal planning, grocery shopping, housekeeping duties, cooking, organizational skills, financial management, and self-careAdvocate for, support, and empower individuals served by providing general skill training where the skill will be usedSupport development of decision-making skills and informed choices in all aspects of daily living, including selection of service providers, goals, location, home decor, leisure activities, roommates, and/or personal possessionsSupport individuals desires to be involved in their community by transporting them to their intended destinations via company vehicleCoach individuals served through escalations in behavior or mood, or through emergency situationsMaintain positive working relationships with teammates, Designated Coordinator, other MN Care Services staff, people served, as well as their responsible party and/or care teamAdhere to the Vulnerable Adult and Child Abuse and Neglect Policies and Regulations, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy policies and maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to people served, their families, and MN Care Services employeesOther cross-functional duties in or out of position scope, as necessaryRequired Skills and/or AbilitiesEducation & Experience (must meet one):Bachelors degree in a related field (e.g., psychology, social work, human services, or healthcare), ORAssociates degree + 2+ years of direct experience supporting individuals with significant behavioral or mental health needs, ORHigh school diploma/GED + 3+ years of progressive experience in behavioral, residential, or mental health settingsCore RequirementsAge 18+ (21+ for programs serving children)Valid drivers license with a clean driving recordAbility to pass MN DHS background study (including fingerprinting)Ability to complete and demonstrate competency in required 245D trainingHighly PreferredExperience in a 245D or HCBS settingHands-on experience implementing behavior support plans (BSPs/BIPs)Experience with structured data collection and documentationFamiliarity with person-centered and trauma-informed approachesProfessional Skills & ExpectationsDemonstrated ability to consistently implement behavior support plans with fidelity under supervisionStrong understanding of behavioral principles (e.g., function of behavior, reinforcement strategies)Proven de-escalation and crisis intervention skills, including appropriate use of trained physical interventions when necessaryHigh-level documentation skills: accurate, objective, and timely behavioral data and service notesAbility to work independently while maintaining alignment with team direction and supervisory guidanceStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional boundariesExcellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and person-centered careProficient with basic technology (EHR systems, email, Microsoft Office)Physical, Behavioral, and Safety-Related RequirementsTolerance for exposure to verbal aggression, loud noise, or unpredictable behavior from individualsFrequent standing, walking, and moving throughout the day, including following individuals during transitions or community outingsAbility to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally (e.g. assisting with mobility, moving equipment, or intervening in crisis situations)Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and crouching (e.g. assisting individuals with activities of daily living, working at their level)Ability to react quickly and move safely during crisis situations or behavioral escalationsManual dexterity for creating data, using paper or electronic documentation systems, and manipulating small objects or adaptive equipmentAbility to implement physical intervention or restraint procedures (if trained and required by the program), including safely holding positions or moving to protect oneself and and In-Person Training Rate: $18.00 per hourStipend paid for completion of required virtual training before providing supportDirect support / in-ratio Rate:$25.00 per hour based on program; position
