Position Type:Operations/CustodialDate Posted:4/17/2026Location:Maintenance DepartmentDate Available:ASAPClosing Date:Until FilledInternal Transfer Deadline: 4/22/26TITLE: General Maintenance PersonQUALIFICATIONS:Has a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificateHas two years of building and mechanical maintenance or operations experienceHas a valid driver's licenseHas the ability to read and follow written directionsHas the physical ability to perform heavy physical laborHas the ability to lift and move objects weighing at least 75 pounds numerous times per dayExhibits personal habits in keeping with the assigned responsibilitiesDemonstrates aptitude or competence in general carpentry, electrical and plumbing with work experience in one or more of these areasHas demonstrated the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and area contractorsREPORTS TO: Buildings and Grounds Foreman/Director of Facility ManagementJOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop and to provide staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to teach, and to help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Be familiar with and follow written policies procedures, work orders and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilitiesExamine school buildings and equipment on a regular basis for needed repair and maintenanceMake needed repairs of buildings and equipment as needed and skills permitDevelop a systematic plan for supervising and/or changing filters and lubricating equipmentIs responsible for the everyday maintenance of vehicles and equipment usedReport conditions needing expertise beyond his/her skills to the Manager Buildings and GroundsAssume primary responsibility for the safe condition of flooring, door frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements in the facilities owned and operated by the DistrictDetermine which repair jobs may be performed by carpenters, custodians and service personnel on the staff, and which may be performed by outside contractors, and advises the Manager Buildings and Grounds accordinglyMaintain an inventory of frequently used parts, materials, and equipment in their assigned vehiclesSecure a purchase order for all authorized purchasesWork cooperatively with a crew of workers as is deemed necessary by the Manager Buildings and GroundsSee that tools and equipment are stored properly, clean and in good repair, ready for next useMaintain necessary records and prepares periodic reportsPerform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisorNOTE:If assigned Local Education Agencies (LEA) asbestos responsibilities, a salary supplement of .25 cents per hour will be added for hours worked plus $1000 stipendTERM OF EMPLOYMENT:Hourly (Grade 21)8 per day40 per wk.260 days12 monthsBoard approved 2-26-92, Revised 9-11-08
