Mechatronics Engineer II
DescriptionJOB PURPOSE:The Mechatronics Engineer II works under general supervision of the VP of Engineering and collaborates with project managers, field service, sales, construction, and production personnel to develop and improve automated systems and industrial equipment. This position integrates mechanical, electrical, and control systems, providing solutions for complex equipment installations, and supports Fulghum's operations through efficient and reliable automation.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Performs detailed computations, analysis, and simulations for complex mechanical, electrical, and control system designs• Designs and documents equipment assemblies, automation systems, robotic interfaces, sensors, actuators, and control panels supporting heavy industrial equipment and facilities• Works directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction and Field Service to resolve issues with new and existing equipment• Collects and analyzes field data, operational requirements, and performance metrics to improve system design and functionality• Ensures accuracy and completeness of drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation, including data entry of requisitions• Conducts site visits to verify design implementation, assist in troubleshooting, and confirm compliance with performance specifications• Applies advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and standards to complete assignments and projects independently• Leads preparation of project documentation, testing plans, CAD and electrical schematics, and contributes to control system programming• Collaborates with vendor/partner automation, electrical, mechatronic engineers for design or troubleshooting purposes• Builds professional skills through continued training, education, and networking events• Mentors junior engineers and designers and supports their development• Works independently or within a team to develop designs and detail assemblies from verbal instructions, sketches, or existing models• Assists in technical writing for Operation, Maintenance, and Safety manuals of the equipmentQUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:• B.S. Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering from an accredited US college or university• Completion of a mechatronics, electrical or automation engineering internship or co-op preferred• Minimum of 2-5 years of related engineering experience, preferably in industrial automation or equipment design• Demonstrated proficiency in mechatronics systems design, including mechanical systems, electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and PLC control systems• Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or electrical schematic software• Strong knowledge in general purpose programming software such as MATLAB, C++, Python, or similar• Experience with PLC programming preferred• Experience with product data management (PDM) or other electronic document control systems• Knowledge of industrial automation, robotics, and manufacturing practices• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written• Proficient with Microsoft Office SuiteCRITICAL COMPETENCIES:• Demonstrates honesty, integrity and a positive attitude• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects independently• Eagerness to accept new challenges and assignments• Mentors and supports development of junior engineers and designers• Applies critical thinking to solve complex engineering problems and develop independent solutions
