TEMPORARY FACILITIES MAINTENANCE MECHANIC “D”

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, equipment, and pumps. Position reports to the Operations Department Area Manager. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assists Facilities Maintenance Mechanics A, B and C and assists other mechanic specialists as necessary. Assists in pump repairs, alignment and seal replacement. Operates the W. K. Ladd Back Pump Station when required. Performs interior and exterior preventive maintenance and repair of buildings and tanks; cleans, paints, and makes miscellaneous repairs. Maintains facility grounds, including cutting grass, fertilizing, trimming, planting and caring for trees, and cleaning walkways and roadways. Cleans, oils, and maintains yard and shop equipment and tools; evaluates equipment readiness. Maintains fuel storage areas and maintenance shop. Maintains distribution pump stations and documents all maintenance and repairs. Tests water and maintain logs of readings. Uses and maintains hand tools, power tools, and test equipment as assigned. Ensures that work areas, buildings, and grounds are kept in order. Assists in the maintenance of diesel equipment. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Maintains a safe working environment in shop area and on construction projects. Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes construction trades, including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, or electrical; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess or obtain a FDEP Level 3 Distribution license or minimum Florida Class “C” WTPO license, or higher within 18 months of higher to remain in job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language. PERFORMANCE APTITUDES Data Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information. Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, measures and angles. Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. ADA COMPLIANCE Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. All tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, wetness, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, operating machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents.
