Role: Children’s House Assistant TeacherReports To: Director of the Lower SchoolFLSA Status: ExemptStart Date: August 2026Position OverviewInly School seeks a warm, reflective, and collaborative Children’s House Assistant Teacher to support a Montessori Children’s House classroom serving children ages 3–6. The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in creating a nurturing, respectful, and well-prepared environment that supports each child’s academic, social, and emotional development.Inly School is an independent PreK–8 Montessori-plus School located in Scituate, MA that serves over 200 students from 20 South Shore towns and is deeply rooted in Montessori, child-centered, and inclusive educational practices. Learning is emphasized through hands-on experiences, thoughtful observation, and responsive support.Position StructureThe Children’s House Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher and teaching team to support the daily functioning of the classroom and the implementation of the Montessori curriculum. This role includes assisting with instruction, maintaining the prepared environment, supporting individual students and small groups, and contributing to a positive classroom culture.As a member of the Inly School staff, the Assistant Teacher is expected to carry out the mission of the school, advocate for the school community, and contribute thoughtfully to the success of the Children’s House program.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the delivery of the Montessori and Inly-adopted curriculum under the guidance of the Lead Teacher.Assist in maintaining a prepared environment that is orderly, inviting, and supportive of independence, concentration, and exploration.Observe children and share insights with the Lead Teacher to support individualized instruction and planning.Support the whole child by fostering emotional safety, respectful communication, and positive social interactions.Work collaboratively with the teaching team in daily instruction, classroom management, transitions, recess, and routines.Provide direct support to individual students and small groups as needed.Supervise students during outdoor play, arrivals, dismissals, hallway transitions, and field studies.Assist with new parent and student visits and classroom orientations as appropriate.Participate in professional growth through observations in other environments, level meetings, and professional developmentUtilize school resources and collaborate with colleagues and the Learning Services team to support student needs.Assist with school-wide duties as needed, including Passport, playground, lunch, arrivals, and dismissals coverage.Follow expectations outlined in the Classroom and Employee Handbooks.Qualities Of An Ideal CandidateA passion for working with young children and supporting their developmentExperience working with children ages 3–6 preferredMontessori experience or training preferred (or a willingness to learn)Sensitivity to cultural and ethnic diversity and a commitment to inclusive practicesStrong communication and collaboration skillsAn openness to feedback and professional growthThe ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundariesSalary And BenefitsInly School offers competitive pay and benefits.
