Van Driver
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This is a full-performance position involving the safe transportation of clients to a variety of locations in order to obtain treatment and/or needed services. The Driver is also expected to maintain safe and orderly conditions of transport, encourage client cooperation with agency rules and regulations, and encourage involvement in the various aspects of treatment and recovery. Drivers function under the supervision of Housing Supervisor.
DUTIES
1. Transports clients to and from appointments with outside agencies and services as needed.
2. Enters resident facilities to ensure that clients leave the building and board the Van as directed.
3. Reports any non-compliant clients to administration by way of an incident report.
4. Responsible for safe operation, upkeep and general maintenance of agency vehicles in accordance with Divine Light Vehicle Use Policy Manual.
5. Immediately reports all malfunctions and/or damage to supervisory staff.
6. Completes Shift Safety Inspection and Vehicle Trip Sheets daily, and turns these sheets into Supervisor,
7. Picks up supplies and donations as needed.
8. Supplies back-up transportation support as needed.
9. Maintains accurate records, including vehicle mileage and trip destination logs.
10. Ensures that clients conduct themselves in a safe and orderly manner while in agency vehicle and/or on agency property.
11. Ensures that all passengers in the van wear masks at all times.
12. Responds intelligently to emergencies.
13. Records, photographs and reports any accident or damage to vehicles.
14. Notifies Supervisor of problems associated with the van, mileage discrepancy, etc.
15. Manages all funds designated for fuel, oil, repair or vehicle safety with prudence and moderation.
16. Assists with Reception Desk and residential activity, when necessary, and performs basic clerical duties as assigned.
17. Performs other duties, tasks and services as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Employee should be capable of dealing with the possible frustrations involved in working with the attempted recoveries of sick clients who may not readily respond to services offered. Job requires a person who is comfortable with self, empathetic and able to deal responsibly with clients and fellow staff.
1. High school graduate or equivalent (GED) preferred.
2. At least one (1) year experience with recovering addicts or alcoholics; sensitivity to and experience with the particular issues affecting male and female addicts, such as addiction, health problems, relationships with friends and families, hygiene, etc.
3. Ability to express self clearly and professionally to both staff and clients.
4. Ability to write standard English clearly and correctly.
5. Current, valid driver’s license required.
SOBRIETY:
If recovering, must have at least two (2) years of continuous sobriety and maintain sobriety throughout employment.
