This role ensures compliance with state surplus lines laws, carrier agreements, and internal controls while supporting accurate and timely premium tax reporting.The position requires strong attention to detail, working knowledge of surplus lines regulations, and the ability to manage multiple filings and deadlines in a fast-paced wholesale insurance environment.Primary ResponsibilitiesPrepare, file, and remit surplus lines tax filings and payments across multiple states and jurisdictionsEnsure accurate calculation and allocation of surplus lines taxes, stamping fees, and assessmentsReconcile surplus lines tax payments to premium and policy dataMonitor filing deadlines and maintain compliance calendars to ensure timely submissionsCoordinate with surplus lines associations, stamping offices, carriers, and internal teams to resolve discrepanciesMaintain accurate records and documentation to support audits and regulatory reviewsAssist with internal and external audits related to surplus lines tax complianceStay current on changes to state surplus lines laws, tax rates, and filing requirementsSupport process improvements and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and accuracyPartner with accounting, operations, and underwriting teams to ensure data integrityWork ExperiencePosition-Specific Skills & Qualifications3–6+ years of experience in surplus lines tax processing, insurance accounting, or compliance, preferably within a wholesale insurance, MGA/MGU, or brokerage environmentHands-on experience with multi-state surplus lines filings and stamping officesExperience working with agency management systems and surplus lines tax platforms preferredProfessional Licensing / CertificationsNo insurance license requiredSurplus lines compliance or tax-related certifications preferred but not requiredEssential Skills & CompetenciesStrong understanding of surplus lines tax regulations and state-specific requirementsHigh attention to detail with strong reconciliation and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple deadlines and jurisdictions simultaneouslyStrong organizational and time management skillsEffective communication skills with internal teams and external agenciesProficiency in Excel and financial systemsAbility to work independently in a remote environmentEducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferredRelevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
