The Medical Physicist Assistant will work under the direction of qualified Medical Physicists to support hospitals, imaging centers and outpatient facilities by performing diagnostic imaging equipment performance evaluations and supporting radiation protection programs to ensure compliance with Florida state regulations, accreditation standards (ACR, IAC, TJC), and best practices in radiation safety. This role includes performing Nuclear Medicine regulatory audits, Gamma camera and PET/CT accreditation testing, annual surveys on x-ray, fluoroscopic, ultrasound equipment and lead aprons. Assisting with radiation safety and occupational dosimetry programs to help clients maintain compliance with the Florida Department of Health and Bureau of Radiation Control. The Medical Physicist Assistant will work closely with senior medical physicists, Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), and client operational staff. This position is based in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area and is an exempt role.What You’ll Do Perform equipment evaluations, acceptance testing, and annual surveys on gamma cameras, PET/CT systems, diagnostic x-ray equipment, including radiographic, fluoroscopic, dental units and lead aprons under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist. Perform Nuclear medicine quarterly audits and inspections of radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with Florida Department of Health (Bureau of Radiation Control), Joint Commission and institutional regulations. Support the development, implementation, and review of Radiation Protection Programs and related procedures for medical clients. Attend Radiation safety committee meetings for Hospital based clients. Assist with monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting occupational radiation dosimetry data; help prepare consultation reports and corrective action recommendations for exposures exceeding ALARA thresholds. Support incident response activities involving potential or actual radiological exposure, contamination, or loss of radioactive material. Perform area surveys, contamination checks, and exposure assessments for controlled and unrestricted areas. Support clients and regulatory bodies on registration of radiation-producing devices and routine compliance documentation. Provide on-site or remote technical support during inspections by state regulators and assist clients in preparing for and responding to audits. Support the delivery of training and educational sessions on radiation safety, ALARA principles, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to radiation workers and ancillary staff. Maintain records, prepare draft reports, and assist in generating documentation required by regulatory authorities and accrediting bodies (ACR, IAC, TJC, FL DOH). Calibrate, maintain, and inventory test equipment, ensuring instruments are within calibration and ready for field deployment. Perform additional duties, as needed.What You’ll Need Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Florida license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is required. Can be eligible for Florida license by having ARRT(N) or NMTCB registry, must apply within 30 days. Florida license as General Radiographer in addition is preferred. Can be eligible for Florida license by having ARRT(R), must apply within 30 days. Prior experience with QC phantom testing and regulatory document management in a diagnostic imaging environment preferred. Working knowledge of diagnostic x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment a plus Familiarity with Florida state regulations and ACR standards are a plus Willingness and ability to pursue continuing education and progression toward becoming an Radiation Safety Officer for clients. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences. Proficient with Excel. Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and organizational ability in managing projects and meeting deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt solutions to client-specific challenges. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between client sites throughout South Florida. Commitment to safety, compliance, and excellence in service.Physical Requirements A consulting medical physicist assistant’s job can be physically demanding at times. A typical day may require remaining in a stationary position for an extended period of time wearing a lead apron, lifting various pieces of test equipment, moving mobile diagnostic medical equipment between rooms at a facility, and driving between client facilities. Drive times will many times exceed 60 minutes to, from, and in between client facilities. The assistant must have the ability to lift 50 lb test equipment cases to a height of 3-4 feet, load and unload the cases from a vehicle, and transport the equipment into and around the client facility. The assistant is expected to communicate with colleagues and clients on a frequent basis. The Medical Physicist Assistant will operate a computer and other electronic equipment daily.
