The role focuses heavily on SMTP forwarding, Windows Server/IIS infrastructure, email retention and vaulting, Proofpoint Enterprise Archive, and automation using Python. The engineer will ensure reliable capture, transport, retention, and retrieval of electronic communications in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineer, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot SMTP-based email transport and forwarding services, particularly Windows IIS 6.0 SMTP.Support end-to-end regulated messaging flows, including message capture, SMTP relay, journaling, archiving, retention, and retrieval.Administer and enhance Windows Server and IIS infrastructure supporting messaging and retention services.Configure, administer, test, and troubleshoot Proofpoint Enterprise Archive (PEA).Design and support email retention, vaulting, compliance archiving, and governance solutions.Develop Python automation for monitoring, operational tasks, integrations, reconciliation, reporting, and remediation.Use MS SQL for troubleshooting, data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and operational reporting.Troubleshoot SMTP connectivity involving firewalls, DNS, TCP/IP, ports, TLS/certificates, routing, and network dependencies.Design and maintain integrations with communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Symphony, Bloomberg, and other messagingtechnologies.Ensure communications are captured and retained according to applicable regulatory retention and compliance policies.Perform capacity planning and improve scalability, availability, resilience, monitoring, and disaster recovery.Lead complex migrations and production changes while following change management, security, and compliance controls.Act as an escalation point for complex production incidents and perform root-cause analysis (RCA).Coordinate across engineering, operations, compliance, product teams, and other stakeholders.Communicate project status, production risks, incidents, dependencies, and milestones to senior leadership.Required Technical Skills / Must HaveWindows IIS 6.0 SMTP Forwarding ServiceSMTP relay/forwarding and email-flow troubleshootingEmail retention, journaling, archiving, or vaultingProofpoint Enterprise ArchiveWindows Server administrationPython scripting/automationMS SQLNetworking fundamentals and firewall troubleshootingMessaging KnowledgeSMTP protocol and SMTP response codesSMTP queues and retry mechanismsSmart hosts and relay configurationJournaling and message captureMail routingDNS/MX conceptsTLS and certificatesMessage tracking and SMTP loggingArchive ingestion and reconciliationCommercial Programming Systems, Inc.
