SENIOR EMBEDDED CONTROLS ENGINEER

Position SummaryThe Senior Embedded Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of embedded control systems across the full product lifecycle. This role blends hands-on electrical hardware design, PCB development, and embedded firmware development. The ideal candidate is a self-driven, collaborative team player who can independently lead technical efforts from concept through production release.Key ResponsibilitiesEmbedded Hardware DesignDevelop embedded control architectures for new and existing products.Perform schematic capture for digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits.Create PCB layouts using Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD tools.Produce complete PCBA documentation packages, including BOMs, fabrication files, assembly drawings, and test procedures.Conduct component selection, design reviews, and DFM/DFT assessments.Support prototype builds, hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation testing.Embedded Firmware DevelopmentDevelop embedded firmware in C for Microchip microcontrollers (PIC, dsPIC, SAM families) or equivalent.Implement low-level drivers, communication protocols, control algorithms, and system-level functionality.Perform firmware debugging, optimization, and hardware-software integration.Maintain firmware documentation, version control, and release processes.Project Execution & CollaborationLead electrical and embedded controls tasks across multiple concurrent projects.Work closely with mechanical, software, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure cohesive system design.Manage project schedules, risks, and deliverables.Communicate technical status, challenges, and solutions to stakeholders.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.10+ years of experience in embedded hardware and firmware development.Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design tools.Strong experience writing embedded C for Microchip microcontrollers or equivalent.Proven ability to take designs from concept through production.Skilled in troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.Strong documentation, communication, and organizational abilities.Self-motivated, proactive, and effective in both independent and team environments.PreferredExperience with EMC/EMI design practices and compliance testing.Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, USB, or Modbus.Experience with motor control, power electronics, or sensor integration.Knowledge of revision control systems (Git, SVN) and issue-tracking tools.Background in manufacturing support, test fixture development, or sustaining engineering.Work Style & AttributesSelf-driven with strong ownership of tasks and outcomes.Collaborative team player who contributes positively to group problem-solving.Analytical thinker with a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.Committed to quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.Must be able to lift and transport 50 lbs.
