The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to hire Highway Maintainers to perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair and upkeep of roads, bridges and other related structures and features. Position Overview: Operates CDL Class A licensed vehicles. Performs labor relating to maintenance of roadways. During snow and ice conditions, assists in snow and ice control. Performs labor relating to the maintenance of roadside and right-of-way. Performs routine housekeeping duties at headquarters. Removes and disposes of trash, dead animals, and other debris along highways. Maintains on-the-job records. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. Requires possession of a Class "A" CDL with appropriate endorsements to include X or N and no airbrake restrictions. Requires one year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment free of incidents which could result in license suspension or revocation.
