Mechanical Engineer – Structural Analysis & Static Load Testing (Midland)

Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today's five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.Position OverviewWe are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with deep experience in structural analysis and static load testing to support analysis, testing, and validation activities for space vehicle structures. This role requires strong expertise in NASTRAN, finite element modeling, and quasi-static load cases. The ideal candidate is innovative, detail‐oriented, and capable of working independently on complex engineering challenges.Key ResponsibilitiesWork with test engineers and technicians to conduct static load tests (SLT) at AST's Site 2 in Midland, Texas.Perform structural analysis of space vehicles, define failure cases, and prepare margins of safety.Translate load states into static qualification testing for structural assemblies.Assist design engineers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.Review and disposition non‐conformance issues.Participate in failure review boards.Support dynamic analysis teams with LTM definition for Coupled Loads Analysis (CLA).QualificationsEducationBS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.Must be a U.S. Person (compliant with U.S. ITAR regulations).ExperienceA minimum of 2 years of hands‐on experience in mechanical/structural analysis of spacecraft.Expertise in FEMAP and NASTRAN, including:Finite element model best practicesFree‐body diagrams and top‐level analysisExperience with composite space structures.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary engineering teams.Strong competency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‐paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Preferred QualificationsAbility to code in one or more languages or toolset APIs to automate tasks and improve efficiency.Experience with automated and non‐automated load trains used in static testing.Soft SkillsStrong interpersonal and teamwork skills.Proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross‐functional engineering environments.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and analysis.Problem‐solving mindset with the ability to work independently on complex challenges.Technology StackFEMAPNASTRAN (full knowledge of solution sequences, case control, bulk data cards)Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Optional: Coding languages or APIs related to analysis automationPhysical RequirementsAbility to work in a standard office and test-site environment.Ability to use a computer for extended periods.Ability to support onsite testing activities, which may include standing, walking, or light physical engagement during static load tests.This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed.
