Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Labor and Delivery for a travel nursing job in Grass Valley, California.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: Labor and DeliveryDiscipline: RNStart Date: 06/09/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: Jun 9, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a Family Birthing Center setting, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and a full suite of OB certifications for a 13-week night shift contract in California.DetailsAcute care hospital setting within a Family Birthing Center covering L&D and Mother/Baby (MB) unitsL&D unit has 4 beds; MB unit has 8 bedsPatient population includes standard term and preterm L&D, couplets, GYN patients, and newborns requiring IV antibiotics or short-term O2 — no high-risk OB; mothers at 34 weeks or below are transferred outPatient ratios: L&D 1:2, 1:1 during active delivery; MB 1:4 (couplets)Unit averages approximately 45 deliveries per monthEach delivery is staffed with 2 RNs and 1 RTCharge nurse is typically non-patient-carrying but provides break relief; no nurse aides on unitCharting via Cerner EMR12-hour night shifts (1845–0715)Every other weekend required; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and SundayTravelers rotate into holiday coverage with core staffFirst to float; floating responsibility is within L&D or MB only — no cross-unit floating outside the Family Birthing CenterSchedules are posted 6 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling; travelers can view schedules remotely and indicate availability for extra shifts or arrange trades with other staffRespiratory Therapy available 24/7; pharmacy hours are 0630–2200 with on-call pharmacist overnightHospitalist/OB on-call and Anesthesia on-call available at nightRequirementsActive CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 2 years of L&D experience requiredRequired certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, STABLE, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)Strong emergency response skills and ability to work independently with limited overnight resourcesDriver's license required for considerationTwo professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehireAdditional InformationFloor-specific orientation is 2–3 days with a preceptor; bedside report is standard practiceFacility-wide orientation for this CommonSpirit Sacramento region facility takes place in Sacramento, not at the local facilityCandidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) before an offer can be confirmedA pass/fail sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientationScrubs are provided by the facilityTravelers are expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's); holiday time-off requests will be considered but are not guaranteedCandidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be consideredLocal candidates are accepted for this positionAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-709373.
