Senior Project Manager- Underground Utilities
Our client is an underground utilities contractor serving the DFW Metroplex, delivering commercial, single-family residential, multi-family residential, and public infrastructure projects. As an employee-owned (ESOP) organization, every team member has a vested interest in our success and the future we're building together.Position OverviewThe Senior Project Manager provides high‑level leadership across multiple underground utility projects, ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and exceptional customer satisfaction. This role oversees full project lifecycles-from planning and budgeting through execution and closeout-while mentoring project teams and supporting organizational strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & OversightLead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they meet financial, scheduling, quality, and safety targets.Provide mentorship and guidance to Project Managers, Superintendents, and project support staff.Support senior leadership in executing long-term operational strategies and process improvements.Facilitate alignment between field operations and executive goals.Project Financial ManagementOversee project financial health and develop detailed cost projections in coordination with company leadership.Conduct thorough reviews of job cost reports, project forecasts, and budget performance.Ensure accurate cost coding, financial documentation, and invoice approvals.Present monthly KPI updates and project performance summaries to the Executive Committee.Manage complex change orders and assess financial impacts.Planning, Scheduling & Resource CoordinationDevelop high-level schedules and ensure integration with field sequencing and resource plans.Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors across multiple projects.Participate in and contribute to weekly leadership, scheduling, and project management meetings.Anticipate project risks and develop strategic mitigation plans.Project Execution & ComplianceEnsure all projects comply with safety standards, company policies, industry best practices, and municipal regulations.Secure required permits, licenses, and governmental approvals.Conduct routine site evaluations to assess progress, safety, quality, and operational needs.Ensure project milestones, contractual obligations, and client expectations are consistently achieved.Communication & Stakeholder ManagementServe as a primary point of contact for key customers, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.Provide escalated support for resolving project issues and maintaining customer satisfaction.Collaborate with the Project Coordinator on progress billing and project documentation.Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to optimize cost and performance.Foster long-term relationships to support business development and repeat work.QualificationsExtensive experience managing underground utility or heavy civil construction projects.Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and mentor developing project managers.Advanced knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, cost control, and utility installation processes.Strong understanding of safety standards, municipal regulations, and permitting requirements.Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities.Proficiency with project management software, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
