A subsidiary of MassMutual, Barings maintains a strong global presence with business and investment professionals located across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.Job SummaryThe Valuations Professional is part of the global team responsible for Private Equity and Credit portfolio valuation, as well as valuation-related exercises for Barings’ BDC complex. This role will also provide a range of key statistics and results to various stakeholders across the firm and investor base.Primary ResponsibilitiesFacilitate the Valuation Process in the Credit and Private Equity segment – generally a quarterly process covering a wide variety of asset classes across hundreds of borrowers/issuersValue financial instruments and complex securities across the capital structure independently, including loans, equity (common/preferred), convertibles, and warrantsLeverage and continue to develop a deep technical strength in the valuation of alternative assets, serving as a firm resource for that expertise and sharing that knowledge throughout BaringsDevelop valuation methodologies and models for new investments and challenge methodologies and assumptions for existing investments utilizing technical knowledgeCollaborate with investment teams to understand new investments and deal origination assumptionsCreate summary materials and present to valuation committees for review and approval of significant changes/events, valuation and market trends, and key judgments Coordinate with third party valuation firms and deal teams to create accurate, timely valuationsPerform advisory valuation services to various business units on an ad hoc basisReview and update Marketing materials sent to existing/potential investors. Present on valuation procedures and best practices to existing/potential investors.Review and update Valuation Policies and make proactive policy recommendations to the firm’s Valuation CommitteePrepare documentation in support of compliance with SOX and external audit requirementsQualifications3-5 years of related work experienceExperience building valuation models (DCF, Comp Multiple and Option Models)Knowledge of capital markets/ illiquid valuations (examples - bank loans, mezzanine loans, and private equity)Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including streamlining processesAbility to complete financial models under the pressure of tight deadlines, and apply modeling techniques to complex scenariosComfort managing the valuation process across a large quantity of diverse investments in parallelConfidence presenting valuation methodologies and assumptions to senior management concisely and clearlyUnderstanding of Alternative Investment strategies and productsBachelor's or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics preferred Strong functional background working with Excel.
