Upstream Engineering is hiring for a full-time Electrical Engineer in Houston. The Electrical Engineer position is ideal for the engineering professional that wants to stay deeply technical while participating within a cross functional high energy team. The technical aptitude of the ideal candidate is the key determinant for success. This role will work closely within a project team developing the engineering deliverables. This role will be very appealing to engineers who want to see their work product through construction. The ideal candidate is diligent and self-motivated with attention to detail.
Duties
Responsible for all electrical work products including, but not limited to construction work packages, electrical single line diagrams, power system studies, and procurement packages
Conduct Hazardous Area Classification studies and ensure all equipment meets applicable standards for explosive atmospheres
Perform electrical system studies using software like ETAP or SKM, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination
Develop manhour budgets and CTR’s for electrical portion of project bids
Design LV & MV electrical power systems for oil and gas production facilities
Design of all electrical systems related to E- House on offshore production platforms
Develop electrical load studies and power generation requirements including black start capability
Provide engineering support by answering questions and requests from vendors and clients including root cause analysis (RCA) for electrical failures and power quality issues
Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations
Develop conceptual/preliminary designs to meet customer requirements and to provide a basis for bidding contracts
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to incorporate requirements at an early stage and provide cost effective, clash free designs
Provide input and coordinate the work of designers in the preparation of approved for construction drawings
Review and check all drawings prior to construction issue
Participate in constructability reviews and alter designs as appropriate to maximize construction productivity
Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for assigned packages
Required
BS in Electrical Engineering from a 4-year accredited university
P.E. is highly preferred
Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience including upstream offshore projects
Strong knowledge of NEC, IEC, NFPA and API codes and maritime regulations, preferred
Proficiency in ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or AutoCAD
Microsoft Office is necessary
Familiarity with subsea power transitions and fiber-optic interfaces
Familiarity with offshore engineering/fabrication practices and trends, preferred
Good organizational and project planning skills
Ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications and reports. Demonstrate strong internal presentation skills.
Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
Some travel to fabrication yard and vendor shops, required
