About the CharityVariety the Children’s Charity of Southern California provides funding to organizations and families in need through programs for children in the areas of Health Care, Education and Mobility. Our organization is currently emphasizing event-based fundraising, but is proactively expanding its reach to increase exposure and explore donor partnership opportunities beyond event-driven initiatives.Position OverviewThe Development Manager plays a key role in supporting all aspects of fundraising, events, and day-to-day operations at Variety of Southern California. This position works closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors and requires a highly detail-oriented, collaborative individual who can manage a wide range of responsibilities—from donor management and event execution to digital content and invoicing. This role will take ownership of key fundraising initiatives and contribute meaningfully to scaling Variety SoCal’s development efforts. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced nonprofit environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is passionate about making a tangible impact in the community.Key ResponsibilitiesFundraising & Donor SupportLead execution of setup and management of fundraising campaigns, including event ticketing and sponsorship sales platformsOwn donor database integrity and reporting including accounts receivable tracking, including follow-ups on outstanding paymentsMaintain and update donor and sponsor records across internal systemsAssist with crowdfunding campaigns and digital fundraising effortsEvent Planning & ExecutionSupport all stages of events from planning through post-event follow-upManage logistics including vendor communication, venue layouts, volunteer coordination, and event timelinesAssist with sponsorship fulfillment, guest communications, and ticket sales trackingHelp manage on-site event operations including setup, volunteer management, and breakdownSupport silent auctions and raffles, including item tracking, platform management, and item shipments to winnersVolunteer CoordinationRecruit, schedule, and communicate with volunteers for events and programsMaintain and update the master volunteer databaseProvide training and day-of instructionsEnsure volunteers are properly supported before, during, and after eventsDigital & Administrative SupportUpdate website content, including event pages and donation/ticketing integrationsCreate and manage contact forms and track incoming inquiriesMaintain and update event tracking and financial reporting sheetsSchedule meetings, coordinate calendars, and take notes for board and committee meetingsMarketing & Creative AssetsDesign digital assets using Canva, including social media graphics, email visuals, event materials, and sponsor adsAssist in the creation of sponsor materials and promotional collateralOversee and manage email campaigns and social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn)Community & Partnership SupportAttend relevant meetings, presentations, and events as neededProvide materials and support for off-site activations and partner eventsAdditional ResponsibilitiesAssist with inventory management and order fulfillmentProvide general administrative and operational support to Board of DirectorsAssist the Executive Director with any other projects or duties as neededQualifications2-5 years of related work experience, preferably in nonprofit development, events, or administrative supportStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Forms) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion, act with integrity, and uphold ethical standards with minimal supervisionDemonstrates strong project management skills, with the ability to balance competing deadlines, adapt quickly, and work as a self-starterComfortable working occasional evenings and weekends for eventsActive driver’s license and use of personal vehicle requiredPreferred SkillsFamiliarity with fundraising platforms (Donorbox, GiveSmart, etc.)Comfortable with creating digital and print graphics (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop)Basic knowledge of invoicing tools (e.g., QuickBooks)Experience coordinating events and working with volunteersExperience with grant research, writing, and reporting within a nonprofit environmentPhysical RequirementsAbility to perform general office activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and using a computer. Position includes occasional travel and requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
