Senior Metrology Engineer — CMM Programming (Aerospace)

Step Into the Role Join a leading aerospace precision manufacturer as the go-to expert for dimensional inspection. As the Senior Metrology Engineer, you will architect complex CMM programs, elevate inspection capability for new product launches, and mentor the next generation of inspectors while partnering closely with engineering and production. A Day In Your Work You begin by reviewing a new aerospace component drawing and GD&T schema. You translate requirements into a robust CMM strategy, write and optimize a PC-DMIS or Calypso program, validate a new fixture, and execute a First Article Inspection. Midday, you collaborate with manufacturing to troubleshoot a subtle dimensional shift, isolate the root cause, and adjust the inspection plan. You wrap by coaching a junior programmer through a complex alignment and ensuring calibration records are up to date for an upcoming customer audit. What You Will Tackle Develop, edit, and optimize CMM programs for complex aerospace parts Execute first article (AS9102), in-process, and final inspections via CMM and conventional tools Create and maintain programs in PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent platforms Interpret advanced engineering drawings, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and customer/spec requirements Engineer inspection methods and validation plans for new product introductions Troubleshoot dimensional issues; drive root-cause analyses with engineering and manufacturing Design inspection strategies that improve throughput without compromising quality Validate fixtures, tooling, and processes through comprehensive dimensional analysis Support customer and internal audits; uphold AS9100 quality system requirements Mentor junior inspectors and programmers; serve as the department’s technical resource Maintain calibration records and ensure equipment compliance Lead continuous improvement focused on accuracy, repeatability, and flow Qualifications You Bring 5+ years programming CMMs in a precision machining environment Hands-on experience with Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo, or similar CMMs Advanced proficiency in PC-DMIS, Calypso, or comparable software Deep command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and complex blueprint interpretation Proven background inspecting tight-tolerance machined components Fluency with micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, comparators, and surface plates Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills Clear communicator who thrives in cross-functional settings with engineering and production Preferred Exposure Aerospace or defense manufacturing environments AS9100 quality systems FAI to AS9102 standards SPC, MSA, and statistical analysis methods Zeiss CMMs and Calypso software Continuous improvement and Lean initiatives Why This Team Stable, growing aerospace manufacturer producing highly engineered precision components Access to cutting-edge inspection technology and complex aerospace geometries Collaborative engineering and quality culture where your voice has impact Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits Clear pathways for advancement within a well-established organization Opportunity to influence quality processes and mentor future inspection leaders
