Job Title: Senior Mainframe ProgrammerLocation: Chicago, IL, HybridEmployment Type: Contract (W2 Only – No C2C)Experience Required: 8+ YearsJob SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Programmer to join our team supporting a large-scale banking environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with core mainframe technologies including COBOL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and JCL. Candidates with exposure to modern development tools such as Git and IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz) will be preferred.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and enhance enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL.Design, code, test, and implement application changes in a complex mainframe environment.Develop and support DB2 databases, VSAM files, and CICS online applications.Create and maintain JCL for batch processing and production deployments.Analyze production issues and provide timely resolution.Perform unit testing, system testing, and support user acceptance testing.Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions.Participate in code reviews and follow development best practices.Maintain technical documentation and ensure adherence to organizational standards.Support production releases and post-implementation activities.Required Skills8+ years of hands-on Mainframe development experience.Strong programming experience with COBOL.Extensive experience with DB2.Strong knowledge of VSAM.Hands-on experience with CICS.Proficiency in JCL.Experience troubleshooting and supporting production mainframe applications.Preferred SkillsExperience with Git version control.Knowledge of IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz).Experience working in Agile development environments.Banking or financial services domain experience is highly preferred.Required Technical SkillsTechnologyRequiredCOBOL ✅ DB2 ✅ VSAM ✅ CICS ✅ JCL ✅ Git
