Speech Language Pathologist (Hidden Valley)

General Definition of WorkThe speech language pathologist, under moderate supervision, performs instructional work with limited decision-making discretion related to the screening, evaluation, development, and implementation of the speech language-related provisions of the educational program. Position will analyze diagnostic information to develop individual education programs for students that utilize a variety of therapy techniques. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Principal or EC Instructional Program Manager.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresAdhere to the North Carolina Professional Speech Language-Pathologist StandardsAdminister and/or evaluate hearing or speech and language test results, barium swallow results, or medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatmentProvide augmentative and alternative communication (ACC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disordersProvide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, and pragmatic languageCompile results into comprehensive written reports which reflect strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environmentDevelop and/or implement speech language-based intervention plans for student needs and evaluation results such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, or inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problemsParticipate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations and develop individual education plans (IEP) and intervention plans to achieve student goalsCollaborate with school staff, parents, and assigned students to increase understanding of the student's therapy programProvide targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and performance in school environmentAccurately maintain records as required by state or federal laws, and district policiesMonitor the effectiveness of speech language intervention and the need to continue, monitor, or discontinue interventionDevelop individual or group activities, or programs, in schools to address speech, language, or swallowing problemsProvide communication instruction to dialect speakers or students with limited English proficiencySupervise and guide speech language pathology assistants, interns, paraprofessionals, etc.Create a welcoming environment that provides optimal learning conditions, promotes respect, reinforces feelings of self-worth, and encourages others to understand and respect those with disabilitiesParticipate in professional meetings and workshopsMake recommendations and referrals for audiological, medical and related servicesComplete all state, local and federal reports accuratelyPerform related work as assigned or requiredKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesComprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policiesComprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of speech language pathology and audiology servicesComprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for studentsThorough knowledge in administering, scoring, and interpreting communication assessmentsDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learningSkilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applicationsAbility to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needsAbility to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operationsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediumsAbility to problem-solve utilizing sound judgmentAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding school system businessAbility to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgementAbility to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programsDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environmentEducation and ExperienceMaster's degree in speech pathology requiredNorth Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (NCBOESLPA) requiredEquivalent combination of education and experience
