May 28, 2025SCHOOL CITY OF EAST CHICAGO2026-2027 School YearPOSITION: Instructional CoachSCHOOL: William McKinley ElementaryREPORTS TO: Director of Elementary CurriculumSummary: It is the role of the coach to build teacher capacity and enhance understanding of data and instructional practices outlined in the district and school improvement plans. The coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, lifelong learning and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All coaches work collaboratively as a team with other coaches and the teachers with whom they work. Instructional Coaches are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through demonstrate and model a passion for urban education and display leadership. The coach will also be responsible for collecting, organizing and sharing data. The Instructional coach's role is not supervisory and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferredCertified in any specific teaching areaThree or more years of recent classroom experienceJob Description:Model lessons in classrooms on a daily/ weekly basisSupport the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the district curriculum and assessments; best practices and data analysisBuild strong relationships with teachersProvide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practicesAssist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their studentsSupport teachers by helping with instructional delivery by sharing multiple instructional strategies/ processes with teachers during planning timesInformally observe ( non-evaluate) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher's professional growth and students' successDevelop staff member's knowledge, skills, attitude, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designsDevelop coaching plans with teachers to ensure student improvementUtilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practiceContribute to the development of systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schoolsProvide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibilitiesSubmit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/ coaching documentationMust possess written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit, and proofread emails, as well as reading comprehension to respond to those emails.Terms of EmploymentCoach will remain a member of the Collective Bargaining AgreementSalary in accordance with the teacher's contractCoaches will work 5 days before and 5 days after the teacher's contracted daysWorking Conditions and Physical EnvironmentMust have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
