Summary The Energy Marshal is responsible for managing all aspects of Lock Out Tag Out (“LOTO”), First Time Energizations, and other energy control procedures for a project. This role directly supervises site LOTO Coordinators, oversees their daily activities, and ensures compliance with J.E. Richards’ (“JER”) LOTO Plan and the Owner/General Contractor’s Energy Control Plan (“ECP”). The Energy Marshal develops and implements Methods of Procedure (“MOPs”) to safely energize and de-energize electrically fed equipment, ensuring safe and effective energy control practices throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Functions · Serve as the primary liaison with Superintendents, General Foremen, Foremen, Project Management, General Contractors, Owners, NETA Contractors, and Commissioning Authorities. · Maintain comprehensive knowledge of site electrical distribution, project one-lines, panel schedules, schematics, and operational requirements. · Understand and apply the project’s electrical Sequence of Operation (“SOO”). · Identify and manage energy isolation points across the site. · Supervise and coordinate on-site LOTO crew members (when applicable). · Develop and maintain MOPs using JER standard forms or Owner/GC templates. · Maintain and update digital one-line drawings to reflect equipment status throughout the project. · Ensure all employees adhere to JER’s LOTO Plan and the site’s ECP. · Oversee NFPA 70E training, as well as LOTO authorization and qualification processes for JER personnel. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E and electrical hazard mitigation. · Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, submittals, schematics, and operating manuals. · Skilled in writing MOPs and developing switching sequences. · Capable of leading First Time Energizations and select commissioning activities. · Proficient with test instruments required for electrical safety and energization activities. · Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills. · Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage field teams, management, and external stakeholders. · Demonstrated professionalism, teamwork, and customer service orientation. · Adaptability, initiative, and reliability in a fast-paced project environment. · Strong organizational and planning abilities. · Endurance and willingness to work extended hours, particularly on data center projects. Education and Experience · Minimum AJ Classification with thorough knowledge of the electrical trade. · Experience in commercial and data center construction required. · Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook) preferred. · Experience working with construction and commissioning schedules preferred. · Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. · Strong mathematical skills with the ability to apply algebra, geometry, and electrical theory to practical field calculations. Work Environment This role is primarily based on an active construction site, with duties performed both indoors and outdoors. The environment may involve loud noise levels and requires significant time spent walking and standing. Some deskwork will be necessary, including digital documentation and coordination. Daily and weekly meeting participation is expected. Extended hours are often required to meet project demands, particularly during critical energization phases. AAP/EEO Statement J.E.
