Mechanical Engineer
MECHANICAL ENGINEERMesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that optical photons will be at the center of advanced technologies in the coming century. Making advanced technology ubiquitous means building at scale, and that's exactly what we're doing at Mesh.Precision mechanical design is foundational to every layer of our optical manufacturing stack—from micron-scale component interfaces to high-throughput production tooling. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, analyze, and bring to production the mechanical components, fixtures, and tooling that enable our photonic systems to perform at scale. You will work across disciplines and length scales, applying first-principles engineering to solve problems that span from sub-micron features through full production line integration.RESPONSIBILITIES:Design mechanical components from first-principles requirements through prototyping, supplier engagement, and production ramp, spanning feature scales from sub-10 µm to large-format parts and tooling assembliesConduct structural and thermal analyses to validate designs, identify failure modes, and optimize performance under operational conditionsCollaborate with electrical, firmware, process, and optical engineering teams to define mechanical interfaces, integration constraints, and system-level requirementsDesign tooling, fixtures, and mechanical interfaces for a high-rate, on-site manufacturing line, balancing precision, throughput, and repeatabilityDevelop and maintain detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, and BOMs in accordance with configuration management and documentation standardsSupport supplier development by defining technical requirements, reviewing vendor proposals, and driving component qualification through production readinessContribute to design-for-manufacturability and design-for-test reviews, ensuring mechanical designs support assembly, inspection, and service workflowsQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related disciplineCAD proficiency (NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent) with a minimum of 2 years of direct project experienceStrong first-principles technical skills in mechanics of materials, heat transfer, and tolerance analysisAbility to read and generate detailed engineering drawings with GD&TExperience working in cross-functional hardware development teamsHands-on prototyping and lab experience, including comfort with mechanical assembly, alignment, and debugWillingness to work extended hours and weekends as neededPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:3 years of direct experience as a mechanical engineer in a fast-paced product development or manufacturing environmentExperience with structural and thermal simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Mechanical, Icepak, Fluent, or similar FEA/CFD packages)Experience designing precision fixturing, tooling, or optomechanical assemblies with tight tolerance requirementsFamiliarity with high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, die casting)Experience with materials selection for optical or semiconductor-adjacent applications, including considerations for thermal management, CTE matching, and cleanliness requirementsFamiliarity with configuration management, revision control, and engineering change processesCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:Pay range:Mechanical Engineer: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00/per yearTitle and base salary are determined on a case by case basis commensurate with experience and merit. In addition to base salary, compensation for this role includes:Eligibility for long-term incentives including company stock options and discretionary bonuses awarded for exceptional achievements.Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance with significant cost covered by the company for yourself and dependents.Paid parental leave and flexible PTO (3 weeks accrued vacation and 10 company holidays per year).401(k) retirement plan access.Relocation assistance to sunny Los Angeles.
