Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js / TypeScript)

About The RoleYou'll be the technical owner on customer engagements, usually 4-12 weeks of project work or longer dedicated-pod retainers. You'll write production code, review every PR (yours and AI's), and stand behind the architecture you ship. We're a senior-only studio: no juniors guarded by one senior, no agency-of-the-week mid-levels.What you'll do Design and ship backend services in TypeScript / Node.js: APIs, ledgers, integrations, queues, webhooks. Own architecture decisions: data model, deployment shape, observability, on-call story. Pair with QA and Security engineers from day one of the engagement, not at the end. Use AI assistants for scaffolding, code review, and test generation; reject what's wrong; keep what's right. Demo working software every Friday. Document as part of the Definition of Done. Hand over to client teams with runbooks, decision logs, and onboarding sessions. What you bring5+ years building production backends in TypeScript / Node.js (or strong Go / Python adjacent + clear path to TS).Deep PostgreSQL knowledge: schema design, indexing, query plans, migrations under traffic.Comfort with AWS (or GCP / Azure) at the level needed to ship: ECS / Lambda / RDS / S3 / IAM.Track record of owning a production system end-to-end, not just shipping features into one.Written communication good enough that documentation isn't a chore.Comfort working async across at least one time-zone boundary (US, UK, EU, or ME).Nice to haveStripe / payment-rails integration experience (Issuing, Connect, billing).Multi-tenant SaaS architecture experience.OSS contributions or technical writing.CompensationCompetitive global rate, scaled to experience and engagement.
