Our positions offer a unique opportunity to help kids uncover hidden talents, while pursuing your own personal and professional goals and passions. Spend your time developing translatable and transferable professional skills (like mentoring and classroom management) while growing social emotional learning skills side by side with the kids (like collaboration, empathy and problem solving).The After School Instructor is responsible for teaching all curriculum for students in their program. They train on all EDMO STEAM/SEL curriculum. Instructors should be prepared for personal and professional growth, classroom management practice, and a whole lot of FUN!Essential DutiesApproach education with passion and excitement and build positive role model relationships with studentsRefine curriculum and add personal contributions as seen fitInteract with parents in a professional and energetic mannerHelp cultivate healthy self-esteem and a natural love for learningBe responsible for supply inventory, bin prep and clean-upMaintain accurate reporting: attendance records, class notes, daily log, incident reportsLead engaging and well organized recreation activities designed to promote teamwork, collaboration and fun physical activityAttend staff meetings and professional development seriesEnsure all students are safe and have a positive experienceExhibit the EDMO Vibe and demonstrating through actions and words each of the social emotional learning (SEL) skills of self awareness, problem solving, advocacy, collaboration, and empathy, while also reinforcing these qualities in other staff and kidsPosition reports to: Site DirectorRequirementsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Experience (and a love for!) working with kidsStrong teaching skillsTalent for making the subject engagingAbility to work without close supervisionKnowledge of after school programs preferredAbility to explain and instruct students at basic levelExperience facilitating groups of children in a classroom and/or working with youth programsHigh sense of responsibility and dependabilityContagious enthusiasm and charismaStrong team playerCreative, flexible, and excellent multi-taskerWillingness to solve problems, be patient, and remain positiveScience, Technology or Maker backgroundGreat sense of humor and love of learningAbility to lift 50 pounds and carry bins with teaching materialsPLUS: Experience in a summer camp environmentEducationHigh school diploma or equivalentCompletion of 48 semester units in college or willingness to take Instructional Exam online given to you by EDMOPROGRAM HOURS: M-TH: 3pm-6pm; Fri: 12pm-6pmPhysical Abilities And Working ConditionsThe physical abilities, working conditions and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification. Incumbents may be required to physically restrain parties involved in a conflict.Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors and outdoors.Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgment and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records.
