1st Shift SupervisorAmerican Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 1st Shift Supervisor role in our Marion, VA facility.Overall ObjectiveSupervises and coordinates shift employees to maximize production, shipping and paperwork.Essential ResponsibilitiesSafetyBe an active participant in the safety committee and promotes safety on a daily basisBe responsible for safety, cleanliness, and good housekeeping of entire plantConduct or assist in regular safety meetings on a monthly basis or as neededProductionSupervise and coordinate activities of plant employeesTrain and assist employees in completing assignments according to proper plant proceduresAnalyze shift duties to determine correct amount of time and material required to complete orders in the most efficient mannerGive instructions to employees regarding jobs to be completed and the proper method in which to complete themSupervise plant for cleanliness, safety, quality control, and optimum productionConfer with other supervisors and communicate with peers, subordinates, and management in a professional manner to assure assignments are being properly completedCarry out inspections and assist in building and machinery repairs in order to ensure a safe and well-maintained work environmentConduct weekly employee meetingsEstablish personal goals with fellow employees towards continuous improvement and teamworkOperate mobile equipment as needed safely and efficiently, including forklift, front-end loader, and yard jockey/trailer combinationComplete and distribute a daily shift report to include production quantities, operator attendance notes, machine downtime, safety issues, and housekeeping notesShipping and ReceivingSupervise loading and unloading of trucks and completion of paperworkVerify incoming shipmentsNotifies Transportation Supervisor of changes to inventory stored in trailersAssist as required with monthly inventory countsEvaluationsComplete and present performance evaluations for shift employeesRecommend promotions or transfers of personnelVerify accuracy of time cards for payrollMonitor attendance of subordinates as well as compliance to plant rulesRecommend and implement disciplinary action as requiredQualityMaintain and verify that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customersAssist in the design and implementation of new procedures as neededConduct and records daily quality testing of production items to ensure quality product is being produced and shippedOtherAttend and participate in scheduled plant meetingsBe alert to those around you, including peers, reporting personnel, customers, competitors; learning as you listen and observePerform other duties and special projects as assignedQualificationsMinimum of HS diploma or G.E.D.Prior supervisory experience REQUIRED; experience in a manufacturing environment is preferredMachine operation requires repetitive motions including twisting, bending, and lifting 20-40lbs, 5-6x a minuteMust be able to stand continuously for 8-10 hr shiftsExperience with forklift, front-end loader, yard jockey/trailer PREFERREDBenefits401(k) matchingDental insuranceEmployee assistance programEmployee discountFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offReferral programTuition reimbursementVision insuranceWork SettingIn-personOutdoor workWarehouseFor consideration...
