*Job Title:* Python Technical SME *Location:* San Jose, CA Job Summary We are seeking a highly experienced *Python Technical SME* to serve as the ultimate technical escalation point and hands-on *Strike Team Lead* for a Python engineering pod. This is a highly technical, backend-focused role centered on *Python coding, complex refactoring, dependency management, runtime upgrades, and resolving critical compatibility issues* across large-scale Python codebases. The ideal candidate must be an expert-level Python engineer capable of troubleshooting complex dynamic-language failures, dependency conflicts, package architecture issues, and major Python/library version upgrades. Key Responsibilities * Perform *hands-on Python refactoring* across large and complex codebases. * Resolve runtime type errors, dynamic import issues, compatibility problems, and breaking changes caused by major library/version upgrades. * Analyze and resolve complex dependency conflicts across: * pyproject.toml * requirements.txt * setup.py/setup.cfg * Virtual environments * Transitive dependencies * Debug and manage historical custom patches and overrides while aligning code with upstream package releases. * Execute multi-version Python layout and package structure migrations. * Establish clean architectural boundaries for shared/internal Python libraries. * Troubleshoot and refactor *Python-to-C/C++ integrations and FFI layers*. * Analyze memory-management issues and interpreter overhead associated with compiled extensions. * Develop automation scripts and tooling to accelerate large-scale code migrations. * Use *AST manipulation and automated syntax transformation tools* where appropriate. * Analyze package graphs and dependency resolvers to identify compatibility and installation issues. * Support major Python runtime and dependency upgrades while maintaining application stability. * Act as the highest-level technical escalation point for complex Python migration and modernization issues. * Work closely with engineering, architecture, and development teams to resolve critical technical blockers.
