2026 Connections | Housing Action Corps | Engagement
The Community Engagement Coordinator will serve with Connections for the Homeless in Evanston, IL from September 2026-2027. Connections for the Homeless (Connections) is part of Housing Action Corps, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA. To achieve this mission, we need more affordable housing in our communities. Educating people to correct misinformation about affordable housing and engaging them in supporting development are effective ways to promote growth. Our advocacy program, Joining Forces for Affordable Housing, recently expanded beyond Evanston to include groups in Cook and Lake Counties. This position will help us continue to expand our community education and advocacy efforts by refining our systems for engaging members and implementing a contact management system to measure and improve our effectiveness. They will also develop and implement community outreach strategies to engage more residents and housing advocates in Connections’ work. Our ideal candidate is an effective communicator with attention to detail and excellent organizational and project management skills. They need to be motivated by organizing, meeting new people, managing data and processes, and creative problem solving. Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with refining processes and systems—asking the right questions to understand what users need to do, explaining how systems work, and identifying sources of confusion or misunderstanding related to systems use. Experience working with standard office tools (Excel) is preferred and any familiarity with Customer Relations Management (CRM) systems is a plus!Further help on this page can be found by clicking here .Member Duties : Joining Forces’ community education has proven to increase support of affordable housing measures in Evanston, the city where we started in 2017. As we expand our education program, Connections needs better systems for engaging housing advocates and measuring our effectiveness at community outreach. The Community Engagement Coordinator will refine our communications and recruitment strategies while implementing a contact management system. The VISTA will refine and implement communications systems to enhance targeted outreach with our Joining Forces chapters, including a monthly newsletter and content calendar. They will expand our recruitment activities by coordinating a comprehensive chapter tracking system, researching potential partners, and building relationships.
