B&B Mechanic Rate: $32.66/hr The B&B Mechanic maintains MBTA properties and Commuter Rail systems within the Bridges & Buildings Department. Minimum Knowledge and Experience: Minimum five years’ experience in in one of the following: carpentry, masonry, steel work, welding, or associated craft High school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential or Trade and/or vocational training preferred. CDL Class A or B and/or a Hoisting License preferred Skills: Communicates effectively with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external stakeholders and maintain working relationships Possesses excellent written, verbal, communication, interpersonal, and presentational skills Capable of using basic hand tools, lifting, bending, stooping, and carrying heavy loads Knowledge of MS Office preferred Comprehends and follows written procedures Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties): Performs activities such as all phases of construction, painting, station work, fence work, bridgework, landscaping, grass cutting, and other duties as required Involves working outside in all types of weather conditions year-round as assigned Includes work at varying heights on bridges, roofs, etc. Operates power drills, power saw, chainsaw, snow blower, lawn mower, power weed tracker, tracker and skid steer Loading, unloading and general handling of materials and equipment as instructed Collaborates with others as well as alone, as required Complies with all related safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required Completes other duties assigned during emergencies Requirements: A valid driver’s license is required to successfully travel throughout the Commuter Rail network and locations as assigned Ability to perform all duties above Working Conditions (including Physical Demands): Work involves walking, talking, and hearing, climbing, balancing (up t0 60 pounds), bending, and driving Working at heights up to 100 feet Noise Level: Loud Shift Work: May be required to work off shifts for special projects.
