REGISTERED NURSE - ICU NIGHT SHIFT

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and clinical team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this job description include but are not limited to:Supporting the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient's immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by client facility's policies, procedures or protocols.Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by patient's condition and/or the client facility's policies, procedures or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly.Develops plan of care that is individualized for the patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as established by individualized plan of care for the patient and his/her family.Delivers care with appropriate age and cultural competence to specific patient populations according to individualized needs.Provides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her family.Documents patient assessment findings, physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.Maintains confidentiality in matters related to patient, family and client facility staff.Provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient's and family's diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societiesFunctions as a contributing team member & communicates effectively with all levels of people.Promotes positive public relations to physicians, patients, visitors, other employees, and the community.Participates in performance improvement activities.Provides for patients'/significant others' rights and safety; strives to manage situations in a manner to reduce risk while following legal and regulatory standards.Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective and cost conscious manner, complying with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations.ROUTINE INPATIENT - ADDENDUM:Med/Surge (RI) Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Med/Surge Nurses provide care for primarily adult patients before and after surgical procedures; they also attend to those who are being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness. Due to the broad range of medical conditions Med/Surge Nurses will encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med/Surge Nurses include (but are not limited to):• Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans• Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse• Document patient needs and progress• Educates patients on surgical procedures• Monitor & records patients' medical information and vital signs• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records electronic displays• Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology• Provides bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients• Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs• Changes dressings, inserts catheters, and starts IVs• Ensure operation of needed equipment (e.g. IVs, feeding tubes, catheters, and oxygen tanks)• Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of patient• Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol• Participates in discharge planning• Displays professionalism while completing tasks (including multiple tasks) in a timely manner• Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsPHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:May be exposed to patient elements, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking, sitting, bending/twisting, kneeling/squatting, reaching, climbing and should be able to lift 25 or more pounds using proper lifting techniques. Rapidly changing and stressful environment. Ability to communicate with various levels of people. Possible exposure to communicable and infectious disease and hazardous materials. Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements (accidents, injuries and illness).Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Subject to many interruptions.
