Development Director
POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
The Development Director will join The Hidden Genius Project as a senior leader with
responsibilities primarily centered on securing the organization’s long-term growth and
sustainability through fundraising and development. The Development Director will drive activities that attract, maintain and increase the organization’s resources via grant development, donor stewardship, relationship management, and a host of strategic activities.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Organizational Leadership—Maintain effective organizational culture consistent with the values of The Hidden Genius Project
Team management and development—Manage Development Associate, relevant
consultants towards effective goal attainment
Funder Cultivation and Engagement—Cultivate positive relationships with relevant
stakeholders Drive meetings with current and prospective funders, and host high-leverage site visits
Donor Stewardship— Manage, execute, and monitor Donor Stewardship Plan to drive
sustained engagement and contributions. This includes managing Development Associate
and/or interns to support order fulfillment
Engagement of Board of Directors and Local Champions—Identify respected and
trusted partners to offer advocacy, guidance, and key relationships to support effective
operation of the site. As appropriate, establish a local Advisory Council to champion The Hidden Genius Project’s mission.
Grant Submission Oversight—In close collaboration with the grant writer, Development Associate, Chief Programs Officer, and Chief Executive Officer, own all aspects of proposal preparation including writing, editing, gathering supporting information and attachments, and submission
Donor Reporting Oversight—In collaboration with the greater team, manage processes to regularly maintain Genius-level and program-level outcomes in an easily accessible format and help support the curation of grant, financial, donor and annual reports
Strategic Communications— Work in sync with Communications Team to develop and deploy pertinent communications assets utilizing established brand guidelines, in support of outreach and donor stewardship opportunities;. Lead dynamic storytelling about program participants and associated impacts
Strategic Data Analysis— Analyze institutional donor information, contacts and grant
records in Salesforce, to inform prospecting, stewardship, and broader revenue generation activities
Targeted Financial Reporting—Work with the Development Associate and Chief Finance and Operations Officer to ensure budgets and financial reports are produced according to funders formats and submitted as required by donors
Corporate and Institutional Partnership Cultivation—Work closely with Director of
Strategic Initiatives to develop and nurture corporate partnerships, donations, and other
opportunities to advance the organization’s efforts
Identify prospective donors to support annual revenue and/or Growth Campaign
Other duties, as assigned by manager

Minimum of 8+ years of experience in workforce development, postsecondary access, or some other area of program Alumni relations, community engagement, or related roles.
Minimum of 4+ years management and supervision experience
Desired
Experience with direct service social impact programs coordination and direct service
delivery
Experience supporting fundraising activities (including grant writing, prospect research and donor stewardship)
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Office) suite and/or Google Drive suite
Familiarity with Salesforce and/or other data management systems
Familiarity with Asana and/or other workflow management/productivity systems
ROLE OVERVIEW:
Role Location: Oakland, California (may also be located at one of our sites)
Reports to: Chief Strategic Initiatives Officer directly, has regular contact with Chief
Executive Director
Status: Exempt
Schedule: 40 hours per week, (in office hours required); working evenings and weekends, as needed
