OVERVIEW:Akumen Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Cross-Domain System Engineer to support a critical program within the Department of State and join a fast-paced engineering team.RESPONSIBILITIES:Are you analytical and enjoy problem-solving? Do you want to design tools that will affect an entire organization? We are looking for a cleared Sr System Engineer who has a strong Linux development background and an understanding of the Microsoft technology stack. You will be responsible for application automation and development for a highly visible program used at the department-wide level.The employee will work on-site, at a secure government location during normal business hours in Washington, DC as required by the customer.This role will support the development of cross-domain solutions using a variety of frameworks and languages.Participate in, and contribute to, the design and architecture process for cross-domain application architecture for the various cross-domain transfer applicationsPerform Linux systems engineering duties such as developing demonstrable proof of concept implementations, integration, and testing across multiple platforms and applications.Create methodological documentation for client requirements with the ability to translate it into the technical designLiaise with engineering personnel familiar with existing product functions for potential integration into an application solutionUse existing web-based UI/UX frameworks to create new functionality while retaining a consistent look and feelDatabase integration (LDAP, Postgres, etc.) and SQL query tailoring experienceDevelop demonstrable proof-of-concept implementations of the cross-domain applications utilizing architectural design concepts and/or documentsDemonstrate proficiency with automated configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef)Utilize industry best practices for secure coding to produce applications that reduce attack risk and fail in a secure mannerIn conjunction with the Certification and Accreditation (C&A) team, implement and provide support for a C&A procedure utilizing existing C&A plans and documentationImplement a test procedure for the cross-domain application(s) utilizing existing documented test plans to ensure verification and validation of the productWork with the customer and vendor to support field deployment and resolve issuesShowcase your ability to think through and resolve complex problems in a fast-paced dynamic environment is essentialAdditionally, the ideal applicant will participate in technical designQUALIFICATIONS:BS degree in a relevant field or additional equivalent work experienceMust have a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in system engineering including Linux and Windows environmentsProficiency in software development with Java, ‘C’, Python, and bash shellMust have experience with network application development on Linux (preferred) and/or Unix or WindowsMust have the ability to debug code modules and profile for performanceSuperior technical documentation and communication skillsProven record in successful relationship-building with users and stakeholdersPossess refined development practices, including documentation and use of source code management toolsAbility to build automated processes using well-known languages and frameworks such as PowerShell, CLI, python, YML, JSON, Puppet, Jenkins pipeline, Terraform, Azure Templates, Cloud FormationLinux OS hardening skillSDesired Qualifications:Experience with virtualization platforms in an enterprise contextKnowledge of security protocols and fundamentals of secure OSUnderstanding of cross-domain applicationsUnderstanding of IP networking and remote desktop protocolsHands-on experience using RedHat/Centos/Fedora and/or UbuntuFamiliarity with cloud computing (Azure or AWS preferred)CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:Must have an Active DOD Top Secret clearance, verifiable in JPAS/DISSAkumen, Inc. is an equal employment opportunity employer.
