Machine Operator –
Location: Ayer, MA (and additional client manufacturing sites as assigned)
Pay Rate: $20–$24 per hour + potential incentives
Shift: 1st ,2nd 3rd Shift (Night Shift)
Position Overview
Emkat Inc. Staffing and Recruiting Agency is seeking dependable and detail-oriented Machine Operators to support leading manufacturing clients across the food processing, plastics, packaging, and industrial production sectors.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on machine operation, working in fast-paced production environments, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Machine Operators are responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining production equipment to ensure efficient manufacturing processes, consistent product quality, and compliance with safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
Operate automated and semi-automated production equipment, including:
Fillers
Cappers
Labelers
Conveyors
Presses
Extruders
Case packers
Palletizers
Perform machine setup, startup, shutdown, and product changeovers based on work orders and production schedules.
Load raw materials and packaging components such as:
Bottles
Caps
Labels
Cartons
Pallets
Production ingredients
Monitor equipment performance, production speed, and efficiency throughout the shift.
Make minor machine adjustments to maintain proper operation and production output.
Conduct in-process and final product inspections using visual checks and basic measuring tools to ensure product quality.
Identify and report defects, material issues, or machine malfunctions to supervisors or maintenance teams.
Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and assist maintenance teams during equipment repairs when required.
Accurately complete:
Production records
Downtime logs
Quality documentation
Machine performance reports
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment in compliance with:
GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
HACCP standards
Workplace safety regulations
Follow all safety procedures including:
PPE usage
Lockout/Tagout awareness
Equipment safety protocols
Sanitation procedures
Work collaboratively with production teams, supervisors, and maintenance staff to achieve daily production targets.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality.
Additional Duties
Assist with assembly of components and packaging processes when required.
Use hand tools and power tools to support production operations.
Operate forklifts or material handling equipment when certified and required.
Move raw materials, finished goods, and supplies within the facility.
Assist warehouse teams with loading, unloading, and storing materials when necessary.
Monitor material inventory levels and notify supervisors of shortages.
Qualifications & Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum 1 year of machine operating or manufacturing experience
Food production
Plastics manufacturing
Packaging
Industrial manufacturing preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Ability to follow technical instructions, work orders, and production schedules
Basic computer skills for production reporting and data entry
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Must be able to:
Stand for extended periods
Walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks
Work in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Strong attention to detail and quality control awareness
English fluency required (bilingual skills are a plus)
Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, SQF, or ISO manufacturing standards is preferred
