Position Overview
The Water Damage Specialist at the intermediate level has four objectives: 1) to act as head of the water damage team handling residential and small commercial losses; 2) knowledge and technical competence in IICRC standard work practices for water and mold damage; 3) competence in the use, care, and maintenance of water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment, and moisture detection instruments; and 4) ability to determine the extent, dimension, and distribution of moisture and to document water losses.
Intermediaries provide assistance in the development of basic level technicians and support advanced technicians on complex or large-scale projects. In CAT service, intermediaries can simultaneously manage multiple water losses, including the organization and management of temporary workers. To qualify, candidates must have 12 months of previous experience at the Basic Level of Water Damage or equivalent industry experience, as well as direct participation in at least 25 water damage projects. This position represents Level 3 in the progressive Water Damage career path.
Responsibilities
Receive and execute instructions provided by the Supervisor
Direct teams in the use of appropriate PPE for each job
Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of updates and challenges
Provide appropriate field documentation, photographic records, charts, and sketches for various TPA projects
Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and maintain vehicles in clean, operable condition
Uphold attention to detail in all tasks
Comply with Our Client's standards to safeguard the property of others
Demonstrate strong customer service knowledge and apply those principles in the field
Work effectively under time constraints to meet specific deadlines
Be available for periodic travel, night shifts, and weekend work as needed
Report time worked, equipment used, and consumables consumed in a timely and accurate manner
Attend operations and safety training courses sponsored by Our Client
Requirements
Supervise and self-perform Water Damage Basic tasks
Gather and upload job site photos to project files
Maintain equipment used in daily tasks, including debris removal, containment/drying chambers, wall cavity drying, pump systems, carpet seam cutting, cushion removal, and baseboard removal
Properly identify Class 4 materials, take moisture measurements, and deploy the most effective drying/restoration techniques
Evaluate the structural integrity of affected materials and contents for direct and indirect water damage; accurately assess restore vs. replace costs
Create moisture maps using provided tools and knowledge
Supervise small crews on the above tasks
Perform additional duties as required
Qualifications
Working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard
Working knowledge of IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard
Current IICRC WRT designation required
Familiarity with Our Client's Water Damage protocols and standards
Proficient use of moisture meters, IR cameras, and ability to distinguish affected vs. unaffected building materials
Ability to draw sketches, read floor plans, complete Moisture Content Logs and Psychrometric Logs, and determine drying goals
Understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, and electrical power/circuit specifications
Mastery in the use of HydroSensor, Thermal Hygrometer, NavPro Moisture Meter, or equivalent tools, and accurate data recording
Experience with truck mount extraction systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting
Demonstrated experience supervising small crews (up to 10 people) on residential, commercial, and industrial losses
Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per company vehicle policy
Strong sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and solid work ethic
English language literacy and fluency
Physical Demands
Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs
Occasional assisted lifting of 41+ lbs (up to 50% of the time)
Access and mobility in tight spaces
Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling
Ability to use mobile devices for data collection and time tracking
