Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction. Elementary Librarian/ Teacher Whiteman Campus 451 Newport Street, Denver, CO 80220 c. $57,000- $63,000 1.0 FTE 189 Days AnnuallyOverview of position:The Elementary Librarian and Library Science Educator will pilot the Whiteman campus' first library. This position supports the academic growth of students by designing, implementing, and refining a yearlong K-4 Library Special curriculum aligned to literacy, social-emotional learning, STEM and grade level content-area standards. This role is responsible for the purchasing, organizing, and maintenance of library materials and databases. The Elementary Librarian and Library Science Educator will also instruct daily classes of 25-30 Kindergarten-4th grade students.This vacancy will be posted until or until filled by a qualified candidate. The annual salary of $57,000- $63,0008 days of PTO with an option to roll days to the following school year. PTO will be prorated to reflect a mid-year start.Health, vision, and dental insurance subsidized by the school.Employee assistance program and online mental health support paid by the school.Early student release each Friday to offer opportunities for professional development and collaboration.Discounted rates for after-school Fun Clubs and out-of-state travel of employees' children.Individualized coaching and support, as well as school-funded professional development.Employees' children get priority in student enrollment, but there is no guarantee of enrollment due to seat availability.Short term disability insurance, term life insurance paid fully by the school.Essential Functions and ObjectivesDesign, implement, and refine a yearlong K-4 Library Special curriculum aligned to literacy, social-emotional learning, STEM and grade level content-area standards.Uses a backward design approach to embed 21st Century Skills throughout units of study, preparing students to thrive in a global society with lessons that are engaging, sustainable, and applicable to everyday life.Uses various types of technology to promote learning and creativity.Continuously reflect on student engagement and outcomes to improve library instruction and programming.Perform Librarian tasks:Create and use databases of library materialsOrganize library materials so they are easy to findResearch new books and materialsMaintain existing collections and choose new books, videos, and other materialsResearch computers and other equipment for purchase, as neededPrepare library budgetsPerforms Library Science Educator tasks:Create lesson plans for weekly K-4 Library elective classInstruct daily classes of 25-30 Kindergarten-4th grade studentsCommunicate with primary teachers regarding in class curriculum to bridge a connection between classroom learning and Library timeCreate grade-appropriate lessons that build research, digital literacy, and information literacy skills, particularly for 3rd-4th grade studentsPrepare 3rd-4th grade students' technology skills for standardized tests required by the state (typing, maneuvering program tools, technology-based written communication)Design innovation projects and Makerspace-style learning opportunities that are related to literacy and encourage creativity, collaboration, and problem-solvingCorrects student behavior to maintain conductive learning environmentAssist with daily student arrival/dismissal duties, and/or other student supervision as needed outside of the classroomSkillsCurriculum design and implementation centered around literacy, social-emotional learning, STEM, and grade level content-area standardsData-driven reflection and analysis used to assess student engagement and outcomesDatabase managementOrganization ability specifically, the ability to organize and maintain library materialsBudgeting and financial literacy.
