You will drive daily editorial decisions, shape coverage in real time, and work alongside a Newsdesk Production Assistant to keep stories advancing with speed and precision.We’re looking for someone with sharp news instincts, confident editorial judgment, and deep command of the Washington political landscape. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who thrives under pressure and knows how to move coverage forward decisively.What You'll DoServe as a senior point of contact for breaking news tips, story leads, and inbound inquiriesLead daily story development and assignments, with emphasis on political and breaking coverageStrategically deploy correspondents and crews, shaping angles, logistics, and editorial focusGuide desk operations alongside a Newsdesk Production AssistantMaintain high standards for accuracy, speed, and editorial impactCollaborate closely with producers, reporters, digital teams, and field crews to align coveragePlay a key role in daily editorial meetings and long-range coverage planningExercise calm, confident decision-making during high-pressure breaking news momentsWhat You BringBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field10+ years of assignment desk experience in a live television news environmentDemonstrated leadership presence in a high-volume newsroomDeep knowledge of the Washington, DC political beatStrong communication, coordination, and prioritization skillsHighly organized, proactive, and deadline-drivenExperience with newsroom systems and editorial toolsExperience Level10+ years required, ideally within a national or international live news organization.
